What exhaust setup 2 get close to V-8?
This may be a stupid question but is there anyway to get my 2nd gen N/A to sound like a V-8 with a dual exhaust and glasspacks (new glasspacks)
basically a deep throaty mean sound...

somehow i knew i was going to get that answer lol...
besides putting a V-8 in it
I just dont want the higher pitched sound I like it to sound deep and strong - and loud when you get on it.

Glass packs wont last a week on a rotary. trust me, i tried it.
Bottom line, it will NEVER sound like a V8. You want the V8 sound, click here

It'll never sound like a V-8.....Why? because you don't have any pistons...Could it sound deep and mean. All bussiness, absolutely. But not like a V-8. For starters as the V-8 winds up the RPM's the tone changes, however a rotary keeps the same tone, except it simply get louder. A very distinct sound i might add. Proper muffling will keep the metallic sound and the back pressure down along with more HP. GOOD LUCK. I would go with a true dual all the way and use some presilencers if you can't run a cat. ala RB style it produces some awesome notes and still be civil on the road. Happy Rotoring

what exhausts are they runnin on the cars from Fast & Furious anyone know? also do they *tweak* the sound after the movie is made to make them sound alot better than in real life? Are the exhausts they run in the movie dual exhausts? I am just trying to get a feel for what the differant exhausts sound like - its too hard to know

a word on glass packs...
Our rotaries run loads hotter than normal piston engines. No glass packs that I'm aware of are designed for this kind of heat, and they will melt for sure. Becareful when choosing exhaust systems, as they can be a hefty investment.
P.S. I thought it was outright CRIMINAL how they dubbed a V8 over the FD in that damned movie...

wasn't dubbed. Not the best sounding exhaust in the world, but definitely a rotary sound.Storm: the closest you're going to get to a "V8" sound is to stay stock. After that, it only get "more rotary".

I love the way uncorked rotaries sound!!! Uber-cool.
FWIW, Storm, a friend of mine (NotNAuto) is running stock manifold->precat->high-flow 2.5" bonez cat->dynomax catback and it's VERY deep sounding throughout the rev range - it doesn't get too high-pitched until about 5k. That may be what you're looking for.

Now if you get a bridgeport, that idle note will scare any redneck w/ a big block V-8. I personally LOVE the sound of rotaries when they are revved, its unlike any other engine. Why would you want it to be something its not? The V-8 sound gets boring, I mean a 1.3 liter will never sound like a 5.7 liter
