What does this valve do?

Pic shows the hose going to the valve I am inquiring about. It seems to open up and pump air into engine "vacuum enhanced like BACV" only when first started as I can tell. It used to connected to the TIMC.

What is its purpose?
Is it to pull metered air or atmospheric air?
Remove it or filter it or if metered air hook it up?

part of the AWS and aids in idle stability on power steering equipped cars.

it is metered air bypassing the throttle plates to raise idle. personally the AWS is a POS system and i am going to remove mine as soon as i do the emissions removal and FMIC, it doesn't do anything on my car anyways since the AWS is inoperative.

personally i would just leave it in there and leave it as is or disconnect it unless you have power steering then it has it's alternate uses.

The car does have PS and A/C but no BACV so I bumped the idle up to 1.3k and working this down as I was timing it. Why have this and a BACV? So should I just unplug it so it dont work or meter it?

this moves more air than the BAC and since the BAC cannot cover all loads they use it for both AWS and PS input idle, i believe it cover's something else as well.

Which valve are you talking about? I looked at the picture of our engine and it looks like all the smog related valves are blocked off already?

pull it off and cap it, if it is even activating it is pulling unmetered air and will run rich.

unplugging it should hold it closed assuming it is sealing, so yes it would work for now.

This is a real confusing post. No picture in the beginning.

On the back of the upper intake manifold, facing the firewall, is the AIR SUPPLY VALVE. It is used for power steering on a series four and according to NZ convertible and the fsm wiring diagram, is also used during HOT START when the PRCV, pressure regulating control valve, is energized for hot starting conditions.

It takes metered air from the intercooler and bypasses the throttle plates to feed air past the throttle body.

There is another valve used during cold starts. It's called the Air Bypass Solenoid Valve and is used in conjunction with the BAC during cold starts. That one is also fed metered air from the intercooler on a series four. It is activated for only seventeen seconds during cold starts and never used again. That one is mounted on TOP of the upper intake manifold. The Air Supply Valve is mounted BEHIND or on the back of the upper intake manifold.
