What do you think this might be..?
Okay..well, i was just driving today (88 10AE TII) and out of nowhere my car feels like a V-8 thats running on about 6 cylinders....so i'm like..uhmm..okay? I turn off my music, and listen to my car just run. Its running just fine...idle as normal, around 900-1100 rpm..revs to 7000 smoothly and without effort..so I just thought maybe it was my imagination..so I take off and while listening I hear my motor sounding just fine, but just as I get into boost, i hear my turbo be about twice as loud as i've ever heard (stock turbo, everything.) It sounds like just whatever boost it is creating is escaping somehow...it boosts up to about 1/3 of the stock gauge and then it gets real loud and the motor starts to struggle revving...however, again, the motor revs just fine out of boost...it sounds like my wastegate is just allowing about fifty times the air out than it was just like yesterday....any clues as to what this might possibly be? I know this is a horrible description, so if you have any questions about any of the symptoms..i'll be very glad to answer. I thank you for your time...

Good chance that the bearings are just going bad in the turbo. Does it smoke at all or act funny? I'm assuming you checked for vac leaks and made sure your blow off valve wasn't malfulctioning?

well to be honest, i'm pretty much a newby..the car does smoke but only on the general "i need a rebuild" terms. If you mean stopping producing power with boost as acting funny...then yeah I do have some vac leaks..but they've been there. This just came out of nowhere. I really don't know enough to diagnose anything, so I'm gonna take this problem as my ch ance to learn. I thank you for your time..

Well, you can take your inlet duct off the turbo and wiggle the shaft around and see if it has play, if it moves enough to hit the housing then it's time to replace the turbo, also take off the intercooler hose and check the inside for oil, it's ok if there's a little film of oil, but if there's an excessive ammount it's another 'replace the turbo' indicator. How many miles you got on the car?
