What do you think of this FC HID upgrade?

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hreadid=236794

We mounted a projector light that came off an Audi TT into a 6054 diamond housing. I think this is a much better alternative to HID kits because you get a much nicer beam pattern and virtually no glare.

Is this something you guys would buy? My friend and are thinking about making a couple more sets.

The projector in the housing looks kinda weird in there but the light output looks nice. How much are you planning on selling them for?

Probably about $550 for the whole set. That would include labor and all the HID equipment.

The few people that do projector retrofits charge about $800+.

rotaryextreme.com does HID upgrades for $500 for any car I believe. And his would retain high beams I'm sure. Would need to be cheaper to sell I think.

Some people apparently don't like the lighting performance.

Can you post a link? I only saw the FD HID lighting upgrades. It costs $850 for the sleek lights + $600 for the HID equipment.

He doesn't have everything online but I talked to him not too long ago and told me that. Just like he does the RE copy in HID for $500 more.

No high-beam = totally useless, and probably illegal.

I wouldn't say it is totally useless. Would you consider a 3-series BMW that had its high-beams burnt out totally useless at night? Because these lights have the exact same projectors to light up the road.

Anyways, the FC conversion project is done. We do these swaps all the time for different vehicles. I just thought I'd share it with the forum since its something new.

ok WHAT work is involved in these? I mean all I see is a bulb and a housing. What kind of labor are you guys having to do for them to fit or whatever?

I agree if you have high beams on there for 550 range it would definitely be worth wile but without Highs most likely not the best seller!

Silly comparison.

HID lighting is not a replacement for high-beams. Low-beam lighting (if aimed properly) does not have the range of high-beams because it's aimed below the car's axis. Just because HID is brighter, doesn't mean you'll be able to see as far.

Have you ever seen a car with stock HID's that doesn't also have high-beams?

you do know you can put your retro kit on and for inspection time just unplug the HID connectors into your factory wiring and run a standard bulb for that day...it may take you ten minutes to unplug and swap bulbs I have a 6000K kit in my car on Hella offroad housings and I'll never go back.

Good grief. Changing bulbs to pass inspection is stupid.

If you're going to modify your car for street use, do the job right.

I never said that an HID low-beam is a replacment for high-beams...I was just responding to your comment about these being totally useless. This is a much better alternative than an HID kit alone...most people lose high beams with their HID kit.

Anyways, this is the very first pair we did. It is obvious that high-beams are desired, so we will do the next pair with a bi-xenon projector.
