What to do before I start engine for the first time?
Hey Guys, Im a newbie here, but I've had a little experience with RX-7's over the years.
Anyway, I picked up an 89 Turbo II with a blown engine about 4 months ago. Prior to that, it had been sitting blown for about 3 months or so. I pulled out the old engine, bought a rebuild from Pineapple Racing, and replaced a bunch of parts. Well just the other day I dropped the new engine in, and got everything hooked up *I believe*
I wanted to get an idea of all the things I needed to make sure I had done before I try and crank the engine over. Im just talking the things that will ruin the engine if I try to start it without them.
Obviously I need
Oil
Coolant
Fuel
Fan?
Mostly worried about it overheating and not getting lubed up, but is there anything else?
The gas has been sitting in the tank for probly 7 months now. Is there any problem with using that gas or should I cyphen it and put some new stuff in there?
Also, how do I go about adjusting the timing. There are 2 marks on the main pulley. A red and yellow one. Also I guess I have to adjust the crank angle sensor. Can anyone give me a rundown on how to do this so I don't cause any detonation in my engine?
Theres alot of other stuff that I'll have to do once I get it running (bleed the brakes, reattach all the electricals, etc.) but I just need the basis for what I need to start it up so I can make sure it will run.
Thanks for helpin a newbie!

you probably gota wait a few hundred miles before the timming. it won't hold a good idle for a little while.
as for starting. pull the egi fuse it. and crank it for a good 30 secs or so. get the oil moving without starting it.

Ok.
And for timing. Just line the CAS back where it was and let it go?

Ah, thats an internal engine thing. I believe it would have been replaced when it was rebuilt right?
Btw, I did not send my engine to be rebuilt, I just bought another one, so it was probly assembled with alot of replacement parts.

Ahh ****, you got it from pineapple ... no worries man they replace them. I did'nt read that part. You got a very solid reputable motor, just fire that **** up!
P.S. add coolant & Oil

what about filling the block with oil and coolant? If you can only fill the radiator with coolant and the oil pan with oil, how do you make sure that the fluids get properly moved through the engine?

Well I would assume its the same idea as an oil change. When you change the oil, all of it gets emptied out, and it fills back up to where it should be on its own. Just a guess though. Good question.

Don't forget to build an altar to the RX-7 gods... You must burn a picture of a riced out neon, forsake all aluminum triple decker wings, and sacrifice a quart of 20w-50, all while chanting "My rotor goes round and round, my rotor goes round and round."
