What first? Handling or power?

My RX-7 is a 10th anniv. turbo (1988).

Its in amazingly great shape for an 18 year old car.

But it is ALL factory original!

Where do I start? Spend on upgrading the handling or the engine first?

Upgrade the driver (improve driving skills), then tune-up, then....well normally I'd say suspension but the FC has an amazing chassis, and power can be so easily freed up with just an intake and exhaust, so I'd go for those first and then do suspension

60K tune up, new tires if needed as well as shocks, bushings, brakes. Learn the car from there by reading the FAQs, stickies, etc... If it's that nice I'd be inclined to keep it stock as possible and do the dependabilty mods needed.

Yep, do the reliability/tune up stuff first. Then upgrade the suspention/tires. Then once you have had the car for a while and know how it works, then you can upgrade the power. And its not as simple as "freeing up the exhaust, etc." You also have to upgrade the fuel at the same time or you could pop the motor.

Tune up and handling first before power... whats the point of having power when your car cant handle it?

handling first. beef it up suspension-wise and learn how to control it before you start the power mods...

No point of increasing power if you, or the car, can't make good use of it...

I would go power before handling. You never know what kinda handling your gonna need with the extra HP. Thats how I did it.

Like most of the others said, do a tune up first, then suspension there is nothing worse than a powerful car with crap suspension, I went for power then suspension, if I was to do it again I would do the suspension first. When I went to the drag strip, I got insane amounts of wheel hop. With new suspension the car will be much more predictable, and tha makes it much more fun.

Yeah, keep in mind TII's aren't the same as the N/A's most of the time first is pretty much useless.

What to do?!

Hi All,

I have an awesome 1988 RX7 10th anniversary.

Its all beautufully ... stock!

It runs well and is a really fun car, but how do I get maximum enjoyment from its potential performance without going all 'Fast & Furious'?

I thought I'd start with a suspension upgrade & brake upgrade and then address the power (exhaust & turbo)

Is a release valve of any benefit to my stock turbo?
