What could be wrong?

Seen this car for sale and I am temped to make an offer, But I dont mess with 2nd's much and dont know what the problem could be.

Ad Below.

this is a 1988 mazda rx-7 GTU it has 180,000 miles the car runs good but is very hard to start and once its warmed up almost imposible to restart without cleaning and drying the sparkplugs. however i have driven it up to 100 miles at a time and it runs perfect and doesnt overheat. i have had the car about 4 months and i have concluded it probably needs a rebuild but it is a sweet car with lots of extras...cd player, lowered with eiback racing springs and tokico shocks, stainless steel brake lines and new pads, strut bar over the motor, k&n airfilter, brand new michelin tires. it would make a good project car for someone that is knowlegable in rotary motors

Well, you have over 3,000 posts. What do you mess with? The same general problems related to the rotary universe carry over from model to model.

It sounds like the car has hot start problems. Like Baby said, that is more than likely related to low compression. Have it tested or just assume the motor is toast and will need a new one.

he probubly works with 1st gen 12a motors. there is a pretty big difference between them. i agree with possibly low compression and the hot start issue. id say rebuild and work with it from there.

I dont touch Injection. Just carb and generaly 12A.

I clue in on the fact that he says it runs great on 100 mile run, Making me think maybe an injection problem causing the flooding, Leaking Injector?

I had read in here one time about the leaking injectors and a fuel pump switch you guys use to get around it.

Or do you pull a Fuse?

You can use a fuel cut off switch during starting (and shut down) to prevent it from flooding. Pulling the EGI fuse is for a deflooding procedure.
