What could I expect - Rebuild

So I'm buying a 87 t2 for $1500 CDN, has a mint body with a blown motor and 195,000 km's. I'll be ordering in the Atkins rebuild kit, I believe kit C, being the best kit they have for a 2mm apex seal setup. I dont have any experience with rebuilding so im going to be getting a rotary tech up here to take out the engine rebuild it and put it back in.

Now besides getting the Atkins rebuild kit, what could I expect being on top of the rebuilt kit? Being for example new housing, I know thats possible it could happen if there not good. But what else could be faulty that seems to be standard around 195k km's? Also, anything else I should get thats relatively cheap while having this engine cracked open.

What about the average cost on someone rebuilding and taking it out, putting it back in? Just a grand?

Edit: Forgot to mention that he thinks its the oil seals. He says it does run but it smokes alot of blue.

Well.. it really depends on how much you want to spend... New housings will make your engine last twice as long if not more... But, you'll want OEM seals with the new housings. Whats your budget?

Remove and install probably around 2400 total pineapple racing wanted 1300 for me to just Remove and Reinstall the motor with a rebuild I already have so i'm guess around 2400 if you have one shop do it.

My budget is 5k. I've kinda changed my plans. All thats really changed, is the engine will be getting rebuilt from www.rotaryengine.com. You get a full rebuild for $1980, with an additional cost of $500 for new housings I think it was. I'll probly be going for the new housings and what else?

I have a choice of 2mm or 3mm, street porting, race, high or low compression rotors. At a additional cost.

Now this car is gonna be a DD, so I dont want it tuned to the max, if you know what I mean. I want decent gas mileage.....Think I should street port?

Its not for sure but I plan to take out the engine, because it looks simple. I've never done anything mechanical in my life, except for an oil change and a couple random things. I'll ship the engine to calgary, get it back and probly get a shop to put it in so I have no problems.

Are you sure? I read somewhere here on the forums, that it does often require a bigger turbo? I'm just gonna run the stock turbo and eventually get a corksport fmic.

I'm pretty sure that's incorrect. Just a safc or something to be safe, but you might be able to get away with out anything. Now, you can always add a bigger turbo, but I don't think it's required. If so I'm screwed with my new engine! lol

I can understand if you are not mechanically inclined, do not have the space, etc. however, rebuilding it yourself with the assistance of a how-to video would probably be a good experience.

Id also go for at least a street port on the housings, and having the exhaust ported. at some point you are most likely going to want to do more with it than the stock turbo will allow, so you may as well have the engine ported to couple along with the future upgrades.

once it is apart, you will have a better idea of what you will need in order to have a reliable motor. it is hard to say without knowing the condition of your internals at the present time.

well a majority of the people on here have blown engines because of the coolant seals(in that case always rebuild), i got my engine off ebay and it almost has all the parts needed for my swap,

the coolant seals were kinda crusty so it has me a little worried, but hopefully it starts up well.

and you dont need a bigger turbo if you port btw.

like he said ^ a sAFC would be safe but you probabaly wont even need one.

How do you know the coolant seals were crusty?
