What could this be?
I have the opportunity to buy a whtie 1990 RX-7 which for the most part seems to be in fantastic shape. The interior is clean, the engine bay is clean, no dents or rust, good tires, the only problem is that the car has NO POWER! It starts with only a little trying, idles ok but not great, but when you go to drive it it has no power. I would estimate a 0-60 time somewhere around 20 seconds. And if you give it lots of gas and try to pop the clutch it nearly kills and will not spin out. Here are my ideas of what's wrong with the car. Since I know nothing about rotary engines can you guys help me by giving me some idea of what it oculd be?
1.) Exhaust leak? (it does have a small exhaust leak that you can hear)
2.) AFM/MAF sensor? (there is a faint gas smell, as if it's running rich)
3.) Fuel Injector? (the guy that owns it says it may be the fuel injector, but I don't know about that.)
Am I possibly close with any of these ideas? Or is it possible that the engine is just blown? Also as a general question are rotary engines hard to work on yourself?

anyone? what is CEL?
btw I had another idea, I bought an old 88 Escort today for work. It has no power at all at takeoff, it has a bad clutch. I'm guessing this could also be the problem.

I got one..haha...nah.umm it sounds to me like you may have a blown rotor if not both of them......My car did the same thing when I lost all compression in one of my rotors........sounds like its time for a rebuild...or just a T2 swap.......ask to buy it for around 500 if not less...unless you dont feel like making it a project......
