Peripheral porting, slide valve throttle body, and air horns.

As an option, you could use a butterfly throttle body if full-range performance is worth taking a small hit on WOT performance.

The best street-able system is either the S5 stock system or an RX-8 system [though I have no idea if the ports are close enough to an S4/5 13B to make it workable...] Though I imagine you'd have nightmares trying to get everything to actuate correctly for the 8 system.. >_>

Save your money and keep the stock one. The best bang for the buck N/A mods are an exhaust and pineapple aux port sleeve inserts.

+1 on the K&N drop in and stock air box otherwise for an NA. Not the best best for all 2nd Gens maybe, but the best for an NA.

Oem air box with the part that goes over the radiator shroud still intact seems to be the best from what I read. I'd retain it, unless it's already gone and lost from a previous owner.

don't forget new metal tube to TB to replace the rippled plastic stock one. heat wrapped would be a place. kinda worthless without a ceramic or heat wrapped header below it.

I disagree with the pineapple inserts, the atkins sleeves are by far superior. One piece design that you just pull the stock out, and slip those in. No need to pull the pins on the stock ones, no loctite, no hammer and flat edge.

But i do agree with the drop in K&N filter. DIY mod would be to route the air pump to power S5 actuators, but this is assuming you have an s4.

REAmemiya fan, thanks for the info on the Atkins inserts. I was planning on getting the Pineapple inserts here soon, but I don't mind paying a little extra for something that has no possibility of coming loose. I also love how well they are shaped, it almost looks like they were meant to be that way from the factory, wonder why Mazda didn't do that?

If you follow the instructions for the Pineapple inserts there's no possibility of them falling out.

The tolerances are incredibly tight on them, I think my sleeves may have been *slightly* out of true, because it took quite a bit of force to get mine in, and then the edges of the opening were peened in... No way that they could come out.

Also $39 vs $75.. And the Pineapple inserts now come with replacement pins.

To each there own I guess, I just prefer something a little more "bolt-on", or in this case "bolt-in", than having to modify something. That, and I still have every single OE piece I have pulled off sitting in my garage, but that's for a different reason.

@ Derekcat: like GXL said, to each their own. I still like the Atkins sleeves more for a number of reasons, plus another benifit i find with them is the edge where the air enters the slevee is tapered inwards where as the stock sleeve is flat. It really probably only makes 0.2% difference in anything, but i do just like them more.

SO......I replaced the stock Rad with a koyo and now the intake is a tad off because of the width the koyo has, the screws are not in place. Should I just change Intake or is it okay like that?

It won't hurt anything like that. If you like you can just grab some longer bolts and a stack of washers.

How much difference will the K&N filter make? I was reading up on their site and customer reviews were off the chain. I mean, does a filter make THAT much dif?

having both in takes on the shelf here, i'd say it completely doable if you lose rx8's APV motor and 5th/6th port sleeves. you could simply add throttle bodys instead on the top. although it may still suffer. if i ever get a spare intake that doesnt belong to an rx8s renesis, i'll give it a try.
