Question What is "The ATF Trick?"

I'm fairly new to RX7 ownership ('88 non-turbo) and I keep reading about the ATF trick. What is it, and when does it need to be done?
Also, has anyone had the no-start problem after starting the engine from cold and then shutting it off after just a few seconds? I've read that this is a problem and I've read the solution for it - I've never had it happen to me because I let it run until warm before shutting it off. Does it happen on a regular basis, and is there a permanent cure for it so we don't have to worry about it?
Thanks in advance.

There isnt a solution to it. It is an oversight by Mazda engineers when they programmed the ECU. The reason it doesnt start is beacuse the computer doesnt reset the Accelerated Warmup System if the engine is shut off before it finishes, and the computer makes the car run way too rich next time it is started. You cant fix it, only prevent it. Just let your car warm up before you turn it off. Actually though, you dont need to let it warm up fully, just until the AWS turns itself off, and the idle is normal. Im not completely sure of this, but pretty sure.
