What is this?

Is this one of those e-bay computer chips? Or is this a good performance bit? Its called "the juice box" I just picked up the car yesterday, and I'm wondering what it is, if its good, bad, safe?

Oh my. 25 bucks on ebay, and is supposed to add 15-20 horsepower! lol!

Yeah, I don't know what that is, but one can only assume the quality of a 25 dollar item.

I can't pass on it...its already on my car. If I take it off, what should I replace it with....what was the stock part?

It didn't "replace" anything- except for the money in the PO's wallet.

He gave them money...they gave him a plastic box full of dreams.
That's how capitalism works on eBay.

Yeah, it's not really hurting anything but it's useless and tacky.
It's just put inline with the air temperature sensor. take it off!

Ah! I know what that is. You've a series four n/a. That box is spliced to the air intake temp sensor, and I might add a rather crummy splice job. I've used those splice things before just forget what the name is. Just open up the blue splice and remove the box/wires, then dress up the stock wires with either shrink tubing or ????? you name it.

Or leave it on there. Then go to the ECU and with the engine warm, read the input of that air temp sensor and compare it to the readings in the FSM, FUEL SECTION.......CONTROL UNIT. Gone.

EDIT: WIRE TAPS as from Radio Shack or Home Depot. Quick and dirty way of tapping into a wire for a signal or power or?????

OH! What is it is the question??????? Take it apart and I'd bet you'll find a ten to twenty cent resistor inside that connects the two wires together.

Now you cheap people out there are doing the math and subtracting twenty cents from twenty five dollars and making critical remarks about the markup. Well just wait a minute here. See that box it came in???? A buck fifty at the electronic store. And see that pretty design with the logo??? That took a bit of creativity and a lot of thought. It didn't come out of thin air.

See the zip tie??? They had to buy more than one. Those things cost dough. Then there's shipping and handling of the product. Then the drive to the Post Office and stamps, gas etc.

And the solder for connecting the wires to the resistor. Gotta buy a whole roll of that. Then again, they might have just twisted the wires to the resistor and saved the customer the extra cost of the solder/solder iron.

Damn. I need to make some of these. I'd no idea there would be ANYBODY out there as a customer base. Maybe I can undercut those guys. Maybe just send the customer a resistor and a razor blade to trim off the insulation on the wires and a crude dwg of how to wrap the wire ends of the resistor on the stock wires that the razor blade trimmed the insulation off. Sort of a BASE JUICE BOX, without the costly box??? Yes.

I thought Hailers was going to mention this part...good read though incl. the other posts.

By putting a resistor in parallel, "the juice box" is telling the computer that the air is colder, so the computer sends more fuel in. This is not an improvement, as the people more knowledgeable than me say the S4's run too rich anyway already.

All the best, and yes, that engine bay is very clean! Give us a line about the car itself...
