we're having a problem

ok, heres the problem, When i accelerate with the peddle to the floor, it doesn't react as it should sometimes. It only does 50% of the time. It seems like an electical problem or something, See what it does it it will rev up fully, but it goes real slow to rev that high. It kinda feels like my cars couple thousand pounds heavier and its trying to give it all its got to get up some speed Does anyone know whats up with this?

White is a bad color for rotary smoke... Maybe the engine is just plain beat and getting ready to go?

but I was thinking something about some kinda electrical problem with the power shortage, because like I said, 50% of the time it runs perfect, full power, and other 50 its no power, and smokey

whiteish blue is oil buddy, looks like your losing some oil seals, when that oil is getting into your combustion chambers your bogging out the engine, harder to ignite the gas when theres lots of oil around...bad news

OH! The problem is that your secondary throttle plates are hanging up on the black cam/damper.

Take your intercooler off. Reach over and pull on your throttle cable while looking at the linkage.

What you have is a number one Secondary throttle plate and a number two Secondary throttle plate.

The number one is inboard and the number two is outboard. The number two linkage rides on a black cam the in turn is riding on a damper. The damper especially and the cam are getting old and are hanging the linkage up where sometimes your number two secondary throttle plates are not opening. The number one secondary plates will always open but if the number two plates don't open the number ones might as well not have opened at all.

Anyway, on the front part of the throttle body you should be able to spy the linkage and watch and see if the number two are opening every time. There is a very small rod with a spring on it .....a black cam...and a dashpot/damper that the cam rides on.

A quick fix to see if that is the problem...is to remove that rod with spring over it, and then tie the linkage full open. I posted a picture of this a month or two ago. I'll try to find it and post it on this thread.

Your symptoms are a classical lack of the number two opening.

Thanks, This might be it. Can you take a picture of where this rod is on the throttle body? I'm just not seeing it. And when you say intercooler dont you mean with turbo engines? mines not turbo

Whats your compression readings? Check your 5th and 6th ports for proper operation. Also do the afm mod.I live here in florida and when the outside temps. go up the cas retards the ignition.Ask Mark about the afm resistor mod. he sells them. And it actually works if installed right and you can also buy a safc and lean it out some on a dyno so you can make better power all around.

something is throwing the car into Limp Mode,..
It Feels like something is Holding it back???,like the damn Brakes are on,and you got no power?Limp mode.
Check engine CODES..see if the OMP is on it's way out. That is what it sounds like to me.it is a common thing among S5's.

If the problem is intermittent, it probably is not a clogged cat, but you can check for that quickly by temporarily removing the oxygen sensor. If that solves the problem, you have an exhaust restriction (probably melted cat elements).

1. check for trouble codes
2. use the O2 voltage or the monitor lamp check and see if the engine is going lean during the power loss episodes
3. set idle speed per FSM
4. set idle mixture per FSM
5. Check timing and advance
6. Check the tps for dropouts across its range of operation
7. Check tps for proper resistance values (1 k ohm at idle throttle, 5 k ohm at WOT
8. Adjust tps for 1k ohm at idle, or, alternatively, for 1 volt signal at the ecu.

Have you changed your air filter lately?
