Were to Get a Quality Alternator?

I'm on my third alternator. Who makes a quality alternator? Does anyone have a recommendation for someplace winds these up for a few more amps? I'm running dual pulleys so I'd rather stay with the stock alt.

Thanks. I really appreciate the specific and well thought out recommendation, especially the personal experience you've had with the shop.

Some board members prefer NAPA alternators such as RotaryRocket88. And one member recommended http://irperformance.com/

I had my s4 alternator modified for 120 amp by a local specialty alternator & starter shop. It is a 100% bolt-on setup. Only the internals were changed.

if you got it from Advance Auto, you have lifetime warranty, why not just go change it ?

and Rob is right, there is an issue with your car if it keeps killing Alternators.

+1 sounds like there is an issue w/ your electrical system

Just get an FD alt, even brand new S4 alts are garbage. And you'll get the same warranty...

+2 for electrical gremlins. Do a test for parasitic draw. For a stock S4 car, don't get another S4 alt as they are crap even when new. A FD alt will do the job just fine. But if you have a thirsty e-fan, bite the bullet and hit the junkyard for a 130 amp taurus alt. That extra 30 amps of juice means that when the S4 alt is maxed out, the taurus one is at 54% output. Best of all, they're cheap, readily available everywhere and a FD dual sheave for FC pulley will slip right onto it.

Look at my posts for "Taurus Alternator" and you'll see how to fab the brackets and wire it up on the cheap. Make sure you follow the picture I posted EXACTLY. And make sure to upgrade the output cable to 4 gauge or better too.
