welding to the block?

So I need to weld my alt. Bracket to my block because I sheared the bolt holding it, I have already tried to remove the bolt (removed the water pump in 26 degree, freezing rain, ugh) but it sheared off at the threads. Anyone done this? I'm thinking as long as I unplug the ECU, battery and sensors I should be fine. Any recommendations?

HELL NO....

What you need to do is properly drill out that bolt and if the thread are gone get a threadsert or helicoil...

I could give you a list of 10 reasons why welding that bracket to the engine would be a TERRIBLE idea....

How so? I'm not intending on selling this thing to anyone ever, what problems would it cause?

You are right though, I should drill it out...

I believe the water pump housing is aluminum, so unless you're going to make a new aluminum alternator bracket, you're not welding anything . The stock bracket is definitely steel.

Oh yea, they are different metahls... looks like I'm busting out the drill. Thanks for the inpu, I would have felt like an idiot wondering why it wouldn't weld on there, lol.

Have you thought of Welding a piece onto the Broken bolt and see if it will come out?Since you are all Gun-Ho about welding?
If that doesn't appeal to ya,then Ya,I would be going at it with a Drill and a Extractor.
