welded diff question for N/A S5

ok well i have been into drifting for a while, and i just recently sold my 89 S13 and bought a 90 rx7 NA. well i have the car pretty much ready for sliding all that is hindering me in the diff. i had a welded in my s13 and i loved it, it was very predictabe, and held up wonderfully. now the rx7 is kind of a new thing to me. i understand rotaries, and the suspension. i have head lots of things that the N/a has an open diff. if this is the case, how well do these cars take to having a welded diff. i know i should go with a cusco, kaaz, or tomei 2 way, but the funds are not here for that. so let me hear your input on this. another thing what is the lock up on the Tii diff.

When you say welded, you mean welded shut, IE closed diff, right?

Usually i've been able to tell if a car has a preinstalled LSD just by jacking the car up in the rear with both wheels off the ground. Put the car in neutral and turn one of the wheels. If they spin in opposite directions you have your answer.

From what I've read welding your rear diff might get both wheels spinning in the same direction but if you use the car for anything else I've heard the day to day experience with it is less than spectacular. But it is cheap...

exactly. what we did is just take the diff apart, open it up and just weld the gears all together. uts held up for us for this long now.. we have 8 rx7's between 3 of us so if we need another diff we are lucky. its great for drifting, but when it comes to daily driving it kinda get annoying when you turn corners cause both tires are being forced to spin and you pretty much squeel one...

I love the looks you get when you are squeeling tires around every turn.

Right Just checking...cause in FWD land, "welded diff" is a common term, but means something completely different.
