weirdest problem...please help

Hey people,

i have the weirdest problem.

First off, the car is a 1988 vert with a tII engine swap, intake, exhaust. Thats all done to the car, except for the regular tuneup etc.

When the car is still cold, if i put it in gear, i will not idle and just bog down and die.

If its not completely warmed up where my heater isn't blowing hot air, as soon as you trow it in gear, if you dont give it any gas, and just hold the clutch in all the way, the car dies.

What would cause something like this?

Could it be that my water temp. gauge is not hooked up, causing the ecu to think its 70 degrees outside, making the car run lean?

your temp guage would have nothing to do with that. check your waterthermo sensor or possibly your nuetral safety switch. when my car is cold and i put it in gear for the first time it wants to bogg down too, but doesnt die, i replaced my neutral safety so i know its no that. only thing i have left to check is my waterthermo.

thanks, where is the waterthermo sensor, and what is its function?

Tournapart, when you say grounds, do you mean the ground wire from the battery all the way back to the starter bolt where its grounded? If so, i just replaced that a couple of weeks ago...
What other grounds should be replaced?

Peyman, I was taught that if something mechanical starts to do something out of the blue, could be anything, almost. But was also told, that if the change started to occur after doing something, like replacing the starter, check at what you recently changed. I'm not saying that is the problem, but start from there. Maybe it is not grounded as well as you think. Just some input. Good Luck.

yes sir, so tomorrow i'm going to make sure the ground wire is tight where it is by the starter, and i will also take the chassis ground off tomorrow and sand the paint where i mount it, cuz i didn't do that when i grounded the chassis.
