Weird squeaking noise in reverse?!?!

my car makes a wierd "sqeaky - sqeaky" noise when backing up. The sound gets progressivly faster as I accelerate (in reverse). Since it only does it in reverse, I assume it is in the tranny. Any suggestions or ideas?

THANX!

My brakes squeak horribly in reverse if i stop.... maybe your brakes are doing the same, but the pads are too close to the rotor so are practially touching at all times. Just a thought before you go buy a new tranny

no... it is definately not the brakes. it is not that kind of squeaking. it almost sounds like the creaky door in all those corny horror movies. ya... that is almost exactly what it sounds like.

any more ideas?

they could be comming from anywhere... I say get someone to lay on the ground beside the car (not behind... ) and listen as you back up to at least get the gerneral area if you can't figure it out.

ok guys... you'll just have to trust me on this one, ITS NOT THE BRAKES! if you heard it you would know right then that its not. also, after listening to it from outside the car, i have pinpointed it in the general area of the driveshaft and transmission. i am really stumped on this one... i don't know where to start.

Hmmmm... maybe bad differential mounts? Or something loose thereabouts? Maybe just squeaky tranny or differential mounts.... I heard that the early polyurethane bushings(aftermarket) would squeak like hell... now they are graphite impregnated. Get under your car and check it out.. anything loose or just look not right(or wrong, lol)?
