Weird spark issue on Turbo II. PLEASE HELP!

1987 Turbo 2. Pretty much stock. Today i went to start it. It cranked and then flooded (for the first time since i owned it.) I checked for spark and found that it sparks exactly one time for everytime I crank it. I'll try to explain this clearly. I put the key in the ignition and crank it. It will make the timing light flash once and then won't flash again. I have to turn the key to "off" and then back to "start" to get it to spark once more. I have power to the leading coil. All fuses are good. Im not sure whats going on with it. Any help would be appreciated...

timing light isn't a good test of seeing whether you have spark or not. find some used plugs somewhere and lay them on a good ground while cranking.

I would rely on visually looking for spark as opposed to a timing light. All you need to do is pull one of the plug wires from the leading coil bore and place the plug wire within 1/8th of an inch from the bore and have someone try to start the car and look for the presence of spark.

thanks guys. I used a spare plug wire and a brand new plug to check for spark first. I then used the timing light for verification while i was checking voltage and wiggling harnesses. I figured it was a safer method as I had nobody helping me.

The new plug sparks one time every time i crank it. The timing light also lights one time every time i crank it. Any ideas why this is happening?

sounds like you are losing the ECU power or the CAS signal is dropping out somehow. check your EGI fuse and make sure it isn't corroded, do the same with the engine fuse in the kick panel by your left foot in the cabin.

Also, make sure the coil(s) are secured to the fender properly.

Karack, you are awesome! Turned out the connector for the CAS was dirty inside and not getting a good connection. The car is running fine now! Thanks to everyone that replied!
