Charging Issue?

Hey, so I am aware that I want my vehicle to be charging at 14.4v, and i use the stock gauge to track this. I began to notice after I changed my belts, that if I begin to load the system (radio, fan, lights) that at idle/low rpm that it will drop. i figured I put the belts on too tight, but they are at a very comfortable tension. Most notably the brake lights seem to kill off the system. I only began to notice this at night, but if I have the fan on during the day it hurts the system as well. I also noticed the 3800 rpm delay after doing the belts too.

Any ideas of what's going on, or anyone that thinks this is normal please let me know. When I refer to killing the system, it probably goes down to about 13v. Gauge is usually slightly over 14.

Justin

Just wanted to add that the vehicle has it's own mind with electrical issues. Horn doesn't always work, clock rarely goes on, seat belt light comes on sometimes on it's own (beeped for the first time last night). There is probably a couple other things I'm missing.

Use a multimeter set to DC volts and place the red meter lead to the B+ terminal of the alternator which is a Black wire bolted to the side of the alternator probably covered with a rubber boot and place the black meter lead to the negative terminal of the battery and take the reading while the car is running. Then turn on some things which you believe pulls down the voltage and check the voltage reading again. This will provide you with an accurate reading compared to relying on the volt gauge.

These are controlled by a cpu in the driver's side kick panel. It is a simple to repair the solders. Unrelated to your other charging issue.

and thanks RX Speed, i'll check it out, and hopefully repair it.
