Weird problem with starting
Weird problem with starting
Yesterday, I turned off my car, and when I went back to turn it on, but it didn't start. I tried again this morning, and it still doesn't start. The starter works, because it cranks, but it won't fire. I checked the spark plugs and they're dry and clean. I also think the starter is fine. I also checked all the main fuses, and they're fine, too.
Could it be that my coils are dead? The exhaust tips smell like gas, so it seems to me that I'm getting fuel but no spark. So could it be that my coils somehow died? my dad checked to see if the plug wires were getting any juice while the engine was being cranked, and we got nothing. Anyone know?

no start
If the plugs were dry and clean it would mean that there would be no fuel getting
thru the system. If you have a no spark situation with fuel they would be wet.
Verify that there is fuel by bridgeing the 2 pin yellow connector near the air intake
hose on the passengerside. take the inlet fuel hose off and put a can to catch the fuel. Have someone turn the key to the on posistion (not start), and see if you have any fuel coming out. Remember this will only tell you if there is fuel getting to the system, not how much. You can have volume and not pressure, the correct way is to install a fuel pressure guage. rx7doctor

Nevermind...it kicked over after much drama...strange. The plugs were dry but I smelled the gasoline in my exhaust, which was weird. Anyways, case closed, car works, me happy.
Yeah, but it started up, burned off the tons of gasoline in my exhaust, and then drove around just fine. The real test will be the next time I turn the key... I'm hoping that when I get the Wolf 3D set up and I work everything out, I can have a car that will be a little more driveable than what I have now.
You are aware that you cannot start and then immediately shut off a RX without letting it warm first?
I would think there is a good chance this is the problem.

You can, it just causes them to flood easily. Best way to prevent if you have to turn it off before it's fully warm is rev it to 3k or something and take the key out on its way up (the rpms). This will cut off the car without much fuel.
By the way, I've moved my car from one side of the driveway to the other or up the street and whatnot tons of times without flooding problems. Turn car on for about 30 seconds to a minute before turning it off again.

Weirdly enough, the problem came back. I think it's one of my fuses, 80A. I can pull out all of the others very easily, but I absolutely can't get 80A out. I think it might be blown or damaged or corroded or something. Could a fuse really cause this much trouble?

it has a bolt that goes through it thats why it doesnt come out easily

Yep....if you look on the sides of the fuse box next to the 80 amp...there is a wire held in place by a bolt ON EACH SIDE....you cannot pull it out without unbolting....I just pulled mine to replace it and clean terminals...
i just had that snuff happen to me today.....the mother trucker didn't want to come out so i took a pair of pliers and tried pulling it out but it wouldn't budge...all thats left are the copper pieces of the fuse because all the plastic vroke in the -10 wind chill that i was working on my car in......how do i get the bolt off ...its ccovered by the fuse boxes outer layer?
