weird oil pressure - please help!
hey guys!
for the past couple of days my oil pressure has been giving me weird readings.
when i first start driving after warming up.. it is just above the "4" mark on my s4 gauge panel.at the end of my morning drive, at cruise speed its just under the 2nd to top line. between point a and point b of my driving, it fluctuates between the two points, even when driving @ the same RPM and gear (so.. when driving 10 min into my drive, @ 3000 rpm, in 2nd gear it reads say.. just over 4.., then1 min later, driving @ the same RPM and gear.. it may read quite high... i.e just under the second to top line..)
wtf is up?
my oil is topped off, and clean.
any ideas appreciated

The stock gauges are never truely accurate anyways, I would personally get a mechanical Oil pressure gauge, I had a similar issue with my old 86 N/A, one thing to remember 10psi per 1000 RPM is ok.
if working correctly you should see 20-30 @ Idle and 80 at anything above 3000RPM.
So.. there are some other things as well.. an oil filter that flows too good will result in lower oil pressure readings, a failing or leaking oil pump will produce a lower reading as well.
it would be best to check it with a mechanical gauge to give you some insurance.

I had the same problem. My gauge reading was between the last mark and second to last mark. The engine also seemed to be struggling for power just before 3K rpm.
I changed the oil (20w50) and filter and now the oil pressure seems to have stabilized and is below the second to last mark past 3K rpm.
Dunno what happened there, but I was nervous driving it.

Yep, I have the same problem and looking into it. I started the car this morning and my s4 oil pressure guage did not budge. The car was running fine but I'm going to get a mechanical guage ASAP. IT is the extra insurance knowing every thing is fine....
