Weird Click???

Hello everyone. Since yesterday, when ever I take my car over 3K or accelerate hard,I hear a loud clicking noise. It sounds like it is coming from under the car. However, it doesnt click when the car is neutral...? Also, sometimes when I am slipping the clutch, I hear a click and a clunk...

I think that it might be the transmission mount. But I havent been able to check it out. Are there any other things that might make this sound that I sound check out tomorrow when I jack the car up? And does a bad transmission mount make that kind of sound? (It sort of sounds like a rapid clinking noise, machine gun like)... Thanks, I appreciate your help and time.

Maybe start by checking the drive line.
Front wheel chocked, trans in 4th, jack a rear tire, aggressively hand turn the tire back & forth, Listen & feel the drive line backlash.
Is that the sound you're hearing?

OK, So I jacked up rear of car and spun wheel with the tranny in 4th gear. No sound... Drove car around again and the sound seems like it is coming from the front of the car near the engine bay.... possibly the exhaust or manifold or manifold cover.... I will check it when the car cools down to a reasonable, touching, temp... any other suggestions would be very helpful... Also, anyone know where I can get mounts(tranny and/or engine) for a reasonable price? How about an e-fan? thanks...

Car is cool now and when I put my hand on the manifold heat shield, it seems, well at least to me, extra loose, I was able to wiggle it with one hand... So, the vibrations from this might be making the loud click sounds... Is it safe to remove the shield? I know it is put there for a reason, but one of the nuts that hold it on came off...

I always hear a loud "clink" on acceleration. I've replaced tranny mounts, all bushings, suspension, and still hear it; I'm guessing it's engine mounts. I have them, just need to install them.

If anyone has any other ideas, let me know.

Hopefully, it's the heat shield.
Many do remove them, but it will heat stress the aux port actuators and hoses

You may be hearing detonation.
It is a sharp metallic ticking sound under high load.
One way to rule it out is to mark the current timing position of the CAS, then retard it (CCW) a few degrees to see if the ticking goes away.
If there is no change, just set it back to where it was.

He has a NA, so I doubt its detonation. Also, I would htink that if he was hearing that much detonation he'd have a blown seal by now. I'm gonna go with the heat shield being the problem. If I remember right, its pretty easy to take off. Just pull if off and see if that fixes it. That seems a lot simpler than retarding the timing to me.

How would that effect the aux ports operationally? I'm about to pull my engine so I could heat wrap the header pretty easy while I'm saving up money for the rebuild if it would help.

I just mounted a piece of 16 gauge steel between the header & the LIM.

Thanks for the pic sureshot.. I think that it is the heatshield, if not it must be something else that is loose... I seriously doubt that it is a seal, compression was good a month ago and the engine is running just as strong still...
