weight question

any idea whats up with this? got my car smogged recently and they weighed it in at 3125lbs. its an 89 gtu with absolutly nothing in it. like the most crap i had in it were papers in the glove box...somethins wrong. even the older smog checks from that place show the car weighing in at over 3100 lbs oh and maybe half a tank of gas.

I have q's on the real weight of a 2nd Gen too. I own a 88GTU and have heard every thing from 2686 to 3100. 3100 for a drop top. I know that is the heaviest, so i know I am not that heavy.

Series 5 cars are much heavier than series 4 cars, but unless bingoboy, has a sunroof, automatic tranny and rear seats, and a whole bunch of extras like fiberglass and such I have a hard time believing that the car weighed in at over 3100 lbs.

BTW x605p747 you should be around 2700 for that car. I have a silver 88 GTU sitting in that garage at my folks house that weighs about that much (wet) with the sunroof.

Nah... a series 5 GTU was 2814 in stock form... I doubt that you'll be 2700.

Hey something you might check though, pull all your fender liners and check for dirt and stuff. Sometimes in poor weather climates (where there is sand or salt on the roads in winter or farming areas) a lot of dirt and sand gets tossed up in under the liners and rear bumper, and that could add 20-50 lbs right there.

Plus if you have a big stereo, larger rims or stuff like that, that all adds up.

*edit
I saw this one where the guy put some heavy discount tire special 24 lb, 17 inch rims (replacing the stock GTUs/T2 rims) which added almost 50 lbs right there as well as sucked up about 10 HP. But he thought he looked cool.
