Question water temp help

ok I just got done installing my water temp guage. I used the stock water temp spot for the new one ( the one below and kinda infront of the oil filter). Well i turned the car on and it runs fine, but the temp guage says i am running at 250* degrees. Um to me that sounds wrong, way wrong? Does anyone have any idea why it is reading so high?

Did it max out as soon as you turned the car on (assuming engine was cold)? If so, its probably grounded somewhere. If not, it sounds like an air bubble.

i connected it to the old temp sender location below the oil filter. no it actually started at about 110 when the engine was first turned on and then as the car warmed up it rose slowly to 250 (max)

It sounds like to me he is using a water temp gauge to determing what the engin temp is via the factory setup of the temp gauge. Insted of taping into the water source somewhere he has it hooked on the nipple on the block next to the OPSU.

Will that work properly even?

IMO I say a EGT gauge is the best bet. It will tell you far earlier then anything else how the engin is runing.
