Water Pump Bad?

Hello,
Today my car out of the blue decided to overheat (well, I think i caught it in time). I was driving home (only 5 mins into the drive) and i noticed the temp guage was almost 3/4 up. By the time I pulled over, maybe 250 feet down the road -- i had to change lanes and pull off, there was smoke coming out and my guage was about 3/4. My coolant levels are perfectly fine and I had a coolant flush about 2 weeks ago only.

I was researching and thought maybe the thermostat got stuck closed. Being that I can't really make it to an autoparts store at the moment, I just took the thermostat out completely. It still over heats.

Also, the top radiator hose (going into the thermostat) doesnt seem to get 'hard'.. it gets warm but doesnt get hot or hard. My coolant levels are still fine, and from a cold start @ idle, it takes about 90 seconds to get to 1/2 way temp.

Does this all equal a bad water pump? From what I understand it does but I would like second opinions before I jump the gun. I read something about a coolant seal, hopefully that isn't my problem..

Thanks.
Eric

In case anyone was wondering (and for future searches..) it was my upper heater core hose. Thats a huge sigh of relief.
