I've heard the slang term of making the engine "happy". Does this mean that its actually beneficial for the engine to hit redline every now and then, or just because its that fun of an engine?

Happy as in beneficial. It breaks harmful carbon deposits loose from the rotors. Redlining a rotary is completely different to redlining a piston engine. Enjoy the revs

Edit: Actually both definitions of happy.
