want to install CD player, but....

I would like to install a cd player, but i can't find a custom kit to fit my car. I have a pioneer and it's not big at all. I looked in cruthfields catolog and their website but i couldn't find anything. I emailed them too, but they never emailed back. So i was wondering for those of you who have installed a cd player where did you get your custom kit? Thanks!

Crutchfield sells a kit, and a damn goon one at that. I have it in my car. It is definately one of the nicest and most complete kits I have ever seen for any car. Talk to me on aim if you want any more advice, tips, etc.

90% of stores that sell and install car audio equipt can sell you the same mounting/trim kits they use for your car... The package I picked up for mine included new trim peices and several options to fill up the bottom hole left over.. either covering it up with another trim piece, or even a little cubby hole to put your sunglasses etc into it...
Prolly easier to head down to a local installer then to try and find the right product online

Ya, its just called the "double DIN" size. My friend installed one in his 99 amigo with a small pocket under the cd player. Only cost like $25 or so from Best buy. Don't bother looking online unless they offer free shipping because shipping will prolly be an extra 1/3 of the price.

I have seen the ones used by most stereo places, Best Buy, and Crutchfield. Crutchfields kit is by far the best quality and most complete kit out there, period. Crutchfield has their install kits custom made just for them. Its ~$25 by itself, or free if you purchase a head unit from Crutchfield. Crutchfields customer support is the best I have ever seen, period. And Crutchfields shipping is dirt cheap. $3.95-6.95, anywhere in the US.

word of advice, I got a metra kit, and it doesn't work all that well. I'm thinking about making my own with sheet metal or something. I don't know. I'm just tired of getting crap that doesn't work well.

Talking

I usually call crutchfield directly. It's fast, and you're guaranteed to get the stuff if they have it. *Which in most cases if not all they do because they just rock that much* ^_^ Oh and as for the size of the 'hole' for the rx7 it's not a double din but a 2.5 din. But it doesn't matter because the crutchfield kit will fit perfectly. Good luck!

Peace,
AJ ^_^

the kit fit in perfectly, its just it wasn't all that stable and the cd player's metal shell?! (don't know what its called, but its the thing the cd player goes in that you put in the kit). the kit didn't work to well with that thing, and it didn't hold it in there really good. so it kind of tilts up and sticks out a bit. I've never done anything with sheet metal, but once I get my car back from being painted I'll give it a shot. don't have anything to lose, do I?

oh yeah. now I remember what the problem was. you know on top, the two screws where the kit screws in? well the bar in between those two screws was broken. I tried using modeling glue but it didn't do too well.

When I put a new CD player in my car I plan on making the front of the panel with carbon fiber and mounting 3 gauges above the stereo. I will prolly just use the standard mounting kit from Crutchfield for the stereo.

It'll look slick like Rick James.
