Vinyl Wrap an FC Project starts today!

I know a few people asked about doing a vinyl wrap on an FC well I am going to give it a shot starting in a few hours. I suspect the blend of the roof to the rear quarters will be the tricky section, win draw or fail I will post some photos of my project over the next few days, wish me luck folks... the color will be gloss deep blue Metallic from 3M and I will be using a bit of knifeless tape to attempt to hide a few seams. pictures will start late tonight or tomorrow.

side note

Forgive the wheels, they are temporary, haven't gotten around to putting my BBS ones back on yet, (the mustang ones give me a bit more road height for winter).

progress

so learning a lot, as a first time working with it, a person can get good results but it takes a lot of time to get it right. not for people who aren't pretty zen. also it is at least a two person job. lastly knifeless tape is your friend.

Knifeless tape is kinda like a layered tape that has kinda like a nylon string in it. You use lay that down 1st where u would want to cut the actual vinyl. Then you just lay the whole vinyl over top and then you pull up on the nylon string it cuts it from underneath. Then you peel off the rest of the tape and your done no worrying about slicing the paint up on your ride

that is looking pretty good. I have been thinkin of doing the same thing. I don't really want to paint over the stock paint.

How expensive is the material and what kind of prep does it need?

my moldings look pretty rough so I will probably leave them covered but I could cut the vinyl to expose them again. that is up to personal preference. as far as prep one has to clean the car within an inch of its life to get good results, any speck of dust or debris on the surface will show. my car isn't exactly what one would call a prime example, lots of bondo and lots of minor dings all over so that all does show through, but I spent $500 in materials and I think the results speak pretty well for themselves. but make no mistake it takes a great deal of work, and tho I am certain it would get easier with practice it isn't always fun. I would much rather paint but just not an option for me right now.

It is at best a "10ft" car but that isn't the vinyls fault but mine. as expected the roof to B pillar section was one of the worst, also the rear corner blends are tricky well. I bought 50' of 60" wide vinyl and that was more than plenty to get the job done with a decent amount left over for mistakes, however that was with more seams than I had originally intended to have. done "right" 50' might just barely be enough and that isn't including the hood being as obviously I wasn't going to cover my CF hood.
