Very strange coolant problem

Yes, I have already done a search...we can start there :-)

When I drive the car it maintains a perfectly good operating temp. As soon as I shut off the car the over flow fills to the point that it starts to **** out of the over flow tube from the reservoir. Not gushing, but a steady stream. So, no overheating, no low coolant buzzer. Just enough coolant loss that the radiator is full, but the cap by the IC takes about 1/3 Liter of water.

Any ideas you might have are welcome. Tomorrow I will be doing coolant leakdown test and am looking for a new cap.

Thanks in advance,
Josh

I wouldn't rely on that buzzer. I know mine doesn't work.

probably exhaust gas leaking into the coolant. I had the same issue, and apparently my issue was common.

My front iron was cracked in 3 places on the exhaust side of the rotor housing, thus letting exhaust in but the rubber seal was still intact and no coolant was getting into the housing when I shut it down.

I recommend performing a champaigne test. If you don't know what that is, we can guide you through it, or you can do a forum search.

Well it's hard to tell if it passed the champagne test cause the coolant is contaminated. I can't tell if it's just rust or what, but foams like a mother. And the car isn't really consuming enough oil for it to be oil and there is no coolant jn the oil. I'm wondering if I don't have a air leak somewhere. Like I said before, once the car warms up it stays at a steady reading around 60C. I'm going to flush the whole system soon and replace radiator hoses and radiator cap. We will see if that works at all.

Usually, foam means it's REALLY BAD. Go ahead and flush it though to double check.

Test = Failed. Rebuild time.

Lol... let us know how that works out for you. Slap whoever told you that would help in the face. That could also be time for a rebuild.

I know it sucks to hear, but both of you (OP more likely though) need a rebuild.

i think I might have a similar problem. I will start my car and it wont get hot I drive it around still wont get hot. But MY coolant buzzer will go off sometimes randomly and I pop the cap and look into the radiator and I can see coolant but still have to put a bit in before the buzzer shuts its hole. could I possibly be burning coolant?
