Vert top Questions.

Ok 1st do all vert's have top motors? Because I don't believe mine does... 1988 S4.

2nd I have searched and dug through probably 50 threads trying to find removal instructions. I am not replacing the material. I am simply purchasing a top from one vert and putting it on mine. Then putting my tattered one on the donor car. None of the instructions or threads discuss this option.. not that I could find.. so if some one could point me in the right direction.

Check out the FSM, there is a pretty good description and method to remove the entire top.

BTW, if you are missing top motors and want some, I have a couple that I will sell you for $10+ shipping. I want to get them out of my shop, I will never need them and I really don't want to throw them away.

Good Luck

To the OP...I'm not trying to be a jackass, I just can't understand from your post. Are you unfamiliar as to where the motors are actually located (behind/under the plastic pieces on each side which are a beyatch to remove)?

The motor is on the passenger side, below the spare tire cover. The motor may be there, just disconnected. I bought my vert and the guy said the top didn't work at all, but turns out that the top was just unbolted from the motors arm for whatever reason. It works flawlessly now.

If you pull all of the panels away in the rear, you should be able to spot where the top is actually bolted in. Just remove the assembly and unbolt the fabric part from the car. It should be pretty straight forward.

Please verify all 'advice' with the FSM.

There is a motor on BOTH sides of the car.

That answers my question. A lot of the interior is missing like the center console and its controls etc.. so, they are probably there but with no power or control box for them. I just assumed if there were motors there would be some resistance when putting the top up and down.
