vert stuck in down position???
ok first off i have an 89 vert and the top has been able to go down but not up....thats not my problem right now. right now the top is stuck in the down position and wont go back up. i have tried to disengage the clutch on the motors and they wont disengage. i have unscrewed the screws and all that happens in a click when the screw should get tight.....also a retaining clip fell off of the screw when i was unscrewing it. i wanted the help of all the daytime people so i posted now even though i will be at work for about the next 6 hours. so i wont respond for till i get off. let me know if you guys have ever had this problem and how you fixed it, or give me your advice on what i can do. thanks in advance everyone.
ps. im not driving it to work its going to sit at home with a car cover on it.

sure the switch isnt bad? if so pull the switch off and jumper the power wire to one of the other terminals and it should go up... i had to do the same thing to my car when my top was stuck down and i knew the switch was out

It has ignition and top up and top down wires in that plug, so you just jumper ignition to top up, or top down as needed.

yes the owners manual does.....i did it but the screws wont disengage the motors so that idea is down the drain. the switch is good it was tested before i put it in. very slight chance the switch might have gone bad since i put it in. tomorrow i will be checking voltage and doing the jumper on the vert diag plug.....if all else fails i think i might just have to rig up a switch just to get the top up.

Well, I had similar problem with mine vert. Mine wouldn't go down (open).
It was the switch. I am wondering: When you try to open (more) the top, does it "beep's"? Cause if it does, then its a switch... If it doesn't... Dunno. Perhaps some connection to the motors or faulty motors.
Keep us informed plz! Many convertibles seem to have the same problem.
Thanks.

That was my solution when my top would not go back up. I opened the switch and cleaned things up.

If there is not 12 volts then you need to check the fuse in the drivers kick panel fuse box.

Hey guys, I have had the same problem with my 91 vert since I bought it a year ago. Usually it works fine. Sometimes it wont go down, sometimes it wont go up. Sometimes I'll push it several times and it will start working again, sometimes it wont work today and then works fine tomorrow.
I suspect that the switch is faulty or needs cleaning but I was wondering if someone could tell me which color wires on the diagnostic plug on the passenger shock tower represent... Ignition, Top up & Top Down?
Thanks in advance!
