Vert regulator: opinions needed

I just bought this regulator to replace the one I had been trying to repair. It arrived with no bushing on the backside of the mounting plate. I'm going outside to install it now to see how it works.

I simply wanted some opinions from people on how this will effect the parts longevity. I've replaced 3 or 4 of these vert regulators now. I've seen broken cables and broken cable moldings, but never a missing bushing like this. Will simply greasing it up real good keep it working properly?

Hey guys...I am the seller of this item. The buyer has been VERY easy to work with on this matter. The item was shipped intact and apparently I did a poor job of packing the item.

I believe the S5 Window Regulators are different than the S4 (the manner in which they work). To me, I don't see anything wrong with Photo 1 (I could be wrong) but in Photo 2 the part has certainly been damaged...confirmed by chips in the shipping container.

If you *actually* have the knowledge to let the buyer know if this will or will not work, please post here. He has been very fair to me and I wish to do the same for him.

Thanks,

GG

+1

Gringo and I are being good to each other. Gringo has been very open to working with me on this and I'm not stressed....things will work themselves out. There wasn't any bad intentions on his part at all. I'll post more and look for responses when I get home from work.

Here is a comparison from the regulator that I owned and was trying to repair.

I've got Gringo's regulator on and it seems to be working alright. My only concern is how that missing bushing is going to effect the wear of the regulator.

I think the problem will be rattling in the short run; Without the plastic part that bushing (roller?) may rattle around and make noise. All those window plastics are a little brittle.

Obviously, the roller was in there to locate the window and reduce friction and binding. If the roller is NOT in there, consequently the window has the possiblity of moving around (not being properly located) and the possibility of binding. This would put extra stress on the cables, which are already a known weak link.

I have a policy of not putting anything back together with a known bad part. I fix it first. On these old cars, the parts are just so brittle that I tend to make more problems every time I take something (plastic) apart. My motto is "While I am in there...". I very occasionally, one has to do this the wrong way. I KNOW you have been struggling to overcome this.

You could probably transplant one from a N/A part or one of the broken regulators that you have in hand. I hope you saved them.

Good Luck!

Jack,

Thank you for the input. I was about ready to cry when Jeff said he found little, plastic chips at the bottom of the packing container (my fault then for poor packing) because that thing was great when I shipped it. =(

I've learned more about the window regulators than I ever want to as a result of this...haha.

Thanks for the input Jackhild.

The regulator seems to be working alright and Gringo and I have a deal setup in case it fails in the next few months.

The movement was actually minimzed once it was mounted in the door and on the window. I greased it up real well and popped it in the door to test it.

I've got all my spare parts (minus the motor spring which broke) from my old one. Hell I gotta be honest, I'm a horrible pack rat, I've even got a jar with PB Blaster sprayed in it where all my rusty screws go. There is nothing more frustrating than needing a bolt you don't have and needing to drop what you're doing to head out to the store. It disrupts the whole chi-flow of repair work....I actually think I read somewhere that a jar of PB Blaster bolts in the garage is Feng Shui...er something!?!?!
