Vert question

Ok i hope that ya all can help me cause im lost on this.
I have an 88 vert and it seems to have an intermitent short in the controlls for the time...some times it works only going down and wont go up...some times it works fine and some times it just dont work at all..

If anyone has any advise for cleaning adjusting or what not please let me know...as i like to drive around with the top down..but its to cold to leave it down here at night!!

Thanx in advance..

I have the same problem. I would assume you have the 3800 rpm thing also. Grounding is a never ending battle with mine. I am taking mine off the road for the winter soon and i m going to re=do all the grounds.

What are you asking???

The controls for the time???

Do you mean the clock??? but then you talk about the top... which is it???

2 things...

1st, the top stops miway going up or down, just to make you crazy.

2nd, I have heard about all this 3800-4000 ground problem causing hesitation, but I am not sure that it is hesitating more than the secondaries kicking in.

Sorry to get off topic, and don't know if #1 is your case.

The top is suppose to stop. This allows you to (un)fold the targa & open or close the latches depending on direction.

Run a jumper ground. If problem goes away, make it permanent.

I think he had a typo, I read it quickly and didn't even realize he wrote 'time' I automatically assumed he was talking about the top.

deadrx7: where is this ground I need to run you speak of? I find it annoying that the top stops partway - it stops to high anyway - and would like to do this, please tell tell

YA im talking bout the time..it was a type, I ment to type "short in the controls for the top"

What it does is it will work some times but other times it will only want to go down but not up. Im pretty sure its just the switch messing up new cause yesterday i took apart my dash when it did it because i heard a ticking sounds coming fromt here...w wiggled all the plugs to make sure everything was seadted ok and it seem to work..but later it messed up again.

I have this same problem. I hit the switch to put the top up and nothing happens, not even a click. Thats what makes me think the switch is going bad. And the fact that I beat on the switch with my mighty fist and by thor, it works!

Hey guys My switch went bad on my vert so what i did was take the switch apart and use it with the 2 little metal pieces inside the switch!! JUst make sure not to loose them and now it works find!! It seems that the metal inside the switch gets durty and or you button on top gives out!! So try taking it apart and doing the metal thing!! its guetto but it works!!

That doesn't work on the 88 or 89, which has the switch built into the wiper/hazard switch, and not in the center consol.

It is unusual for the 88-89 switch to fail. Are you sure you have the parking brake on all the way?

The 88 and 89 (and 90-92 Non-USA Spec) convertibles have the top control switch between the wiper switch and the Hazard lights switch.

The switch above the headlights is the headlight cleaning/motor switch.

The 90-92 US Spec convertibles have the top control switch in the center consol, and have the cruise control ON switch between the wiper switch and Hazard lights switch.
