vacuum lines!! looking for best tubes
How do you define "best" in a vacuum hose?
-The OEM Mazda hoses are "best" because they are pre-formed and fit perfectly.
-Regular old generic rubber hose from the parts store is "best" because it's cheapest and holds vacuum.
-High quality silicone is "best" because it's trick, trendy and can be had in colors.
I just redid all my rubber hoses (vac/fuel/water) and opted for the generic NAPA hose, mainly because of cost. The stock rubber hoses lasted fine for 19 years so I didn't see the point in upgrading the base material to something "better".
Since the whole point of the hose is to contain vacuum- and rubber hose does that just fine- the extra expense and "Hey, look at me!" color option didn't seem worth it.

I started with 20' of the small (5/32) tube and had just a little left over.
The other two sizes (which escape me ATM) only take a few feet, depending on what you eliminate.
2' should cover the under-intake fuel line needs- at least it did on my S5 NA- not sure about a Turbo.

Pay attention when you take the manifolds off.
There are several hoses (at least on the NA) that must be removed- and more to the point, replaced- with the manifold/dynamic chamber in position.
Some of these, especially the ones between the firewall and the back of the chamber, can be very finicky to reinstall.
When I redid the hoses I made these particular ones longer so they could be attached before the parts were dropped into position, which made life much simpler.
These were only extended maybe an inch, inch and a half but it all adds up and instead of the 13' that Mazdatrix estimates, I ended up using closer to 16'.
Also, be aware that the hose to the pressure sensor switch has a restrictor pill in it.
If you replace this hose, don't forget to snag the pill before tossing the old one.
Don't mean to threadjack, but what happens if you don't have that pill for the pressure sensor? When I redid my hoses I didn't see anything in the line, but my car currently runs without it. What does it look like by the way, is it one of those huge pills with the arrow on it like on the rest of the vacuum lines?

If the pill were in the hose it would be found at the bottom of the hose which is connected to the sensor. Placing a thin wire into the tube is a good way of locating it if present.
make a note that most generic vacuum hose is not the same quality as the OEM mazda vacuum lines. put them both in oil for a few days and youll notice the difference.
silicone hose does not swell when you add fuel or oil to it but it does get VERY slippery and can rip or blow off rather easily.
