vacuum leak

well, I have gotten all the kinks out of the rx-7 after porting the manifold. It now cranks up noramally and wants to return to what is a noraml idle but dies. this is most likley a leak. How can I find it? I used a plate to block off my AVC valve. I think it maybe leaking because it is not secured. Any suggestions.

This is tricky if it won't idle on its own. Have someone hold the throttle open just enough to maintain a rough idle. Spray carb cleaner around all the likely vac leak points. Listen for it to smooth out and pick up a bit. But before you do that...

Not secured?! Use some suitable sealant behind it and make sure the bolts are tight. Now check for leaks.

The lower intake gasket is a royal pain. I thought I could reuse mine, but I didn't see a missing piece. Took the intake off again and spent over 2 hours cleaning off the old stuck on gasket. No gaskets were available locally, so I reassembled it with Permatex Ultra BLack RTV sealant, applied it carefully, followed the directions, let it set first and bolted it up. The idle now purrs at 800.

well, I sorta noticed that my oxygen sesor was not plugged in. I bet this was it. I can not crank it until tomorrow (to late for my parents).
