He needs "Dumbest Member Ever" under his name.

450 "ponies" isn't too difficult a task for a TII owner, just expensive. V8 swaps have been done before. And there's no way in hell you can get 1100HP for $1000.... now get back to middleschool.

The money spent to do the swap will be more than the cost to build a TII to the same hp level... just something to think about.

I think he means do the swap on the 300zx instead of the rx, not use stock 300zx

yeah but then theres the fact that a 300zx is way heavier than a rx7. face it... rx7's are good candidates for v8 swaps. lightweight, rear-wheel drive and a strong drivetrain.

Brad,

All arguments aside about how evil the V8 swap is, you are kidding, right? 450hp out of a T2 being cheaper than a V8 swap with a mildly warmed up 350? That's a heck of a lot of HP for a T2, IMHO, meaning at least street ported motor, big turbo, FMIC, bigtime upgraded fuel system, and an adjustable ECU setup.. Don't get me wrong, I respect the hell out of someone who does that, but I seriously doubt you could do a 450 T2 for the same price as a 450 V8..

Memphis-

you wrote "that would make me the only person with 450 ponies under the hood."

Take a number.....

A place in FL sells assembled newly rebuilt 383 chevy shortblocks with forged pistons for a little more than $1K. Not sure if a core is involved. http://www.wheelermotorsports.net

Then add either Vortec iron GM heads for $450 with home port job or Trick Flow aluminum heads for $900 and a matching performance cam/lifters $200, performance intake manifold/carb/headers $500 and 450reliable hp with 450+ft/lbs tq would be no problem.

This of course could be done cheaper if you bought used parts from E-bay or a tired engine with the good parts already on it. But of course you guys already knew that.

Memphis- A 383 bigblock..... do you mean a Chrysler engine? If not then that is a smallblock with a stroker crank if you have a Chevy.

Check out the forum at V8RX7.com as there are motor mount kits that make this swap a snap.

No one has said anything about big blocks. I respect those who want crazy power in their cars. I built a 355 (350 .030 over) with over 500 lb/ft of torque and about 300 ponies. If I didn't use it in my tow vehicle, (suburban that'll do 120mph) I'd be thinking of ways to put it into a smaller car. And that motor was only about $600 with new iron heads...

Not trying to rag on you at all But, My friend told me today That he going to sell his 425hp s10 (big block) because his girlfriend thinks it to loud. But I must say that switching a Rotary for a v8 is by far the dumbest ******* thing I heard all day. Next somone going to tell me that they are going to put a hole in their head so they can hear better. WHAT!!!!!!!!!!

V8's are cool, but my opinion is that they belong in 70's Charger RT's, Caddilacs, Monte Carlo's, Firebird's, Camaro's, and other cars that were DESIGNED for high torque, high horsepower, large engines. Dont ruin one of the coolest things that your RX7 has going for it. How many people can say that their car has no pistons? Just my opinion, i wouldnt switch to a V8 for the world, but i would love a car with a bigass V8.

They sound damn good too (V8's I mean).

There are more and more people that are considering the swap. I just got my Ford 302 stuffed into my 7 a couple of weeks ago. It's a lot of work - please read that again - A LOT OF WORK. It can be done, and fairly inexpensively if you do most of the fab and installation yourself.

Don't forget that there are other powerful swaps that have been done with motors other than the Chevy 350. Look at the Ford 302 or the Turbo Buick engines if you wnt to better maintain the 50/50 weight balance of your 7.

I gotta a friend with a 400 in his 90 model. turbo 350 tranny. if the idiot who put it in would have used the right alternator for the engine it would be running right now. But they didn't, so it breaks belts all the time.

My friend parked his until he gets his built 350 installed out of his Camero. When he gets finished, the import crowd around here will play hell keeping up with him. (mind you we only have a few serious tuners around, they will give him a run for his money.)

Just remeber, he bought this car witht eh 400 in it. He has had several RX's. This one was more of a novality for him, had to sell his monster truck to buy it.
