Using cheap tubing for a downpipe...
Just wondering if some of the companies that are offering downpipes on the bay are using cheap steel? I bought one from a guy that said it was a test pipe and when I ran it taching around 3500rpm for 10 minutes, it glows red.
I'm sure if the car was actually moving, the air flow would help cool it down some, but would a brand name pipe do any better?

yeah it seemed like a good pipe except for the damn bent flange that connects to the manifold. It looks like the normal thickness of other pipes...

well given that our motors run hotter than most other engines, id say that it glowing red is mostly normal..... for an ebay one. especially at 3500 for 10 minutes..it might not last as long as one from racing beat but if it works and doesnt make your ears bleed then go for it

It's normal for any tubing based exhaust to glow red running at high RPM for 10 minutes if the car is in poor tune. Cast manifolds don't glow because they are much thicker.

poor tune, it's nice that you assume that. new plugs 8mm wires, grounding on car redone, injectors professionally cleaned and ohmed, new fuel filters, timing set, the only thing that hasn't been done yet is flushing the cooling system.
How much more do I have to do to get it from a poorly tuned car to a greatly tuned car?

If you have a stock ECU, then it's pretty safe to assume that you have a poor tune.
