used starting fluid to start car... knocked.. :(

well i was trying to see what was going on and it turned out my fuel pump was bad. But using starting fluid ot start it... my friend had the can at the intkae and i was inside... it started... revved up to 2k or so and then dove like it should with no gas. BUT HE HIT IT WITH THE STARTING FLUID AGAIN.... HARD! and it kak ka ka kak ka kak vroommmm then died.

since then i drove it to the shop and it was slow. now before people scream that its gone.. i got the car for 700 with major boost and vac leaks and totally cloggeg exhaust with leaks at every joint. the turbo exhaust manifold was cracked and i had to get a new one... so i think the slow part was no boost and total lack of throttle responce due to the crazy rich mix.. (air leaks after the AFM right?)

***now for the question****

will knocking once like that kill a rotary? this is a low mileage motor so i hope not.

I was mad when he did that but i guess its my fault too, i didnt explain how bad it was to try to keep it running.

p.s. now looking for a diy water injection system to make sure i dont pop it. And no im not planning on tuneing to the water but tuning to the IC.

Knocking like that once most certainly can kill a rotary. I've seen less do it. Get that engine a compression test. Any decent Mazda dealer can do it for pretty cheap.

You might not like the answer. . . Maybe.

Some engines have endured more that a can full of ether, others well, their number was up.

Take the time and diagnose correctly, compression check, etc. Don’t rip the motor out from what you read. Fix what’s broken by methodical inspection and diagnoses.

yea i mean its in the shop now getting all the little crap fixed... i did a comp test on it when it was cold and had the throttle closed (this is before i knew how to do it right) and it was ~90 in all 3 in both rotors.

so i guess it good. Im getting the stuff done like it is good and will go from there. Iv got 3 months and $1300 into it. If it turns out to need a motor i might put one in it. dunno yet.

god i hope i didnt mess it up... damn sucks how your hear about what you shouldnt do AFTER you do it.

if COLD the engine has 90 on all faces of both rotors with the throttle closed, the engine is good. Don't worry about it. Really.
