USDM 13b to JDM S4 swap

Basically this thread is to verify some information I was told. To kick things off I have a '87 se she'll and was looking to purchase a 87 JDM 13b w/ tranny but was told that in order to complete the swap I need to purchase a $1300 dollar ecu. Its either this or having to buy used housings, intake, carb and goin that route. Any and all suggestions and comments are appreciated.
