upgrading to EV14's - diffuser required?

i 'm installing Bosch EV14 injectors in my '87 TII. because of their claimed supperior flow/atomization characteristics, is the "screen" portion of the diffuser necessary?

I have read of Guys just cutting the bottom of the diffuser off but leaving the spacer/o ring portion on.
If they are OLD I would really consider doing so.

Primaries or secondaries? You will need some injector bosses for primary otherwise the plug will bottom out before it seats

I would avoid using the diffuser. Howard Coleman has a thread where several people have noted broken diffusers being the cause of failed motors.

yes, that was my intention if the EV14's flow characteristicis deemed the diffuser section ("screen") unneccessary. but it seems prevention of catastrophic failure is the main reason to remove them.

i call BS to diffusers causing engines to pop. coincidence maybe, cause likely not.

and the FD diffusers are usually the only ones to break, since they have 2 weak legs versus the FC shorter 4 legs which are much more durable.

better atomization of the fuel before it enters the engine is never a bad thing.

So, Ben, you're suggesting even w/the EV14's claimed superior spray pattern keep the diffuser at least in the primary?

i don't believe you will notice a difference with them in there or not with the EV14's, i just wanted to clarify the broken diffuser stories. i've had chunks of metal go through engines with OEM 2mm seals that survived(bridge ports breaking iron walls in the intake stream) so i'm just not seeing a piece of plastic taking an engine out.
