Update S4 DD project

So S4 project turned out to be a bit more then I could chew for repair so I've decided to sell it to junkyard for whatever I can get for it. But I stumbled across an S5 completely stock one owner . In GREAT shape body wise two problems the seller says there is a oil pan gasket is leaking slightly an the AC needs a recharge.

I'm not to worried about the oil pan gasket I've done a bit of searching seems like a simple task.

1) But I've never done a AC recharge before, and don't cars from 96' or older use R12 and new cars use R134?

2) If that is the case how hard is it to retro fit the AC system to use R134?

From: Vriginia,
Other members said they manage to do it wrenches ramps and jack stands. I read that a engine hoist is optional

The best way would be to tilt the engine and transmission up to clear the motor mounts, unbolting from the pan and seeing if you can weasel in wrenches. Oil pan gasket is not fun.

Yeah, everything is pretty wide open except the ones across the front where the pan overlaps the crossmember.
Raising the engine will help a lot.
And yes, it can be done on your back under the car.
You won't much like it (amount of dislike inversely proportional to how high you can get the car) but it's doable.

Long as you're at it, put in a stud kit and make your future life much simpler.

I just did it in 2 hours tonight. I'm glad you sold it to the junkyard, good choice.

I really did hate to do it given my current circumstances it just isn't the best project to have so I went with something more manageable

From: Vriginia,
So I went and picked up the car a few nights ago and there are few more problems then was originally advertised but the guy explained all the other problems before I bought it. So here are the issues and my plan of attack.

Shifter
- loosesness, has play in all 1st 2nd and 3rd gear , shifter shakes in neutral, noise when moving to right and left(louder when shifting to 5th or reverse gear), but not entirely sure if it's shifter trans related since it doesn't happen every time, and shifters spring pull back to neutral is harder when coming from 5th and reverse gear

Solution - I plan to replace the whole assembly at the moment have the spring already came in the glove box . Plan on ordering bushing from Mazda today and will get the 3 piece boot kit from Mazdatrix .

Next Oil pan gasket
- has a small leak
Going to replace gasket and do a stud kit

Small coolant seepage from this location

Attachment 526044

will take a closer look at that one later today and then

Further down road Passenger side window motor and regulator, Passenger side wiper won't work , and wiper nozzle on driver side won't spray. Then there is A/C system. These will be the projects over the course of the next 7 months .
