Unknown large bolt at tail end of trans

Unfortunately still have the trans out of the car (about 2 months behind schedule lol). While going over everything on it I've found that I'm missing a large bolt/mechanism at the very end of the extension housing. In various forum writeups and even the FSM this part is seldom mentioned and not much info can be found about it. I've seen it called the [cap bolt, spring and lock ball], [check ball], [spring and ball]. I'm just hoping someone has a part number or some form of information about this. Is it necessary? (I would assume so) and is there anywhere I can get or make one if so? I'm not even sure what exactly it does.

Thanks in advance for any help
Merry Christmas!

i'm not sure what it does, but there is a Spring and Ball behind the bolt, so its a detent for something.

the bolt is 0183-17-491, its NLA, but every M box uses it, so Rx7, Miata, 80;s Trucks, all have the same thing.
Spring is 0824-17-483 and the ball is 9962-21-500, these are available

I managed to track down those parts I think I'll take a trip to the local junkyard and cross my fingers. Just wanted to let you know there might be a typo on the ball part number you posted. I didn't get any results using 9962-21-500 but found a diagram with the part number 9961-12-500, I'm assuming that's the one you meant? Either way thanks for the help again, hopefully this can help future people in the same situation.

It looks like the following vehicles with the m/t use the same system

Mazda B2000 1986, 1987
Mazda B2200 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993
Mazda B2600 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993
Mazda GLC WAGON 1986
Mazda MPV 1989, 1990, 1991
Mazda RX-7 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992

and yes, its 12-500!

the trucks yes, Rx7, yes, and also the 1990-1997 miata

not sure about the MPV, and the GLC Wagon is rare, you won't run across one

Hmm so I took a trip to the local junkyard the other day and luckily found a 1992 B2200 and a 1993 B2600 (4wd) both manual. Unfortunately I can't seem to find that bolt/mechanism anywhere on them

I might be going back to pick up an efan later so I was wondering if I might be looking in the wrong spot or something? Any tips would be appreciated

On a side note, how could I identify the thread pitch/size of the missing bolt? If I could get the spring/checkball from mazda maybe I could just use a short generic bolt that threads in? It's fairly large and surprisingly couldn't get any of my bolts to thread in despite having a bin of various metric fasteners from mazda and honda.
