Unknown Hose

Hey, just a quick question about a hose I see just doing nothing as the moment.

It's the hose in the pic with the arrow pointing to it.

Any help is appreciated

Thanks,
Mike

Also needing to see whats going on here. I have searched and read different posts but most just go against what was said in another post.

I have the radiator fill cap, the overflow fill cap and the cap on the T-Stat Housing but the nipple was broke off. So curious to see if that nipple is a must have or if you use a different type of radiator cap there.

After driving around I turn the car off and after a min or so water begins to blast out of that nipple there.

The car is an 87 T2

Thanks,
Mike

Gotta have the nipple and hose that runs to the OVERFLOW tank.

OR...you can daily refill the cooling system with water/anti freeze.

That broken nipple should lead to your overflow bottle. If you already have a hose leading to it, you should replace that neck to the one without the nipple. I cant really make out that hose in the first pic, not really familiar with that area with the cols star assists

Yeah, that is what I was afraid of.

I already have a hose from the radiator nipple going to the overflow tank so unsure of where another overflow hose would actually connect to at that point.

Would it do any harm to just put a non-pressure cap on that t-stat housing for now to keep it from releasing pressure?

You have to have some form of pressure relief in your coolant system, don't run it without a pressure cap SOMEWHERE in the system...

Oh, yeah I have pressure caps on both the radiator and the location where the overflow bottle are at.

Just thought putting a non-pressure cap on that one location to prevent coolant from leaking.

But also have some water coming from that hose in the first pic as well

Your right, of course. If you have a pressure cap on the radiator and a nipple going to the overflow tank, then you don't need a pressure cap on the filler cap area. Put a non-pressure cap on that one and be done with it.

Ok, thanks.

Next dumb question but where is a place to find a non-pressure cap?

None of the auto stores in my town have any and the employees at most of our auto stores said there isn't such a cap made.

I saw a zero pressure cap at evens but havent used anything from them yet so unsure if that would be the cap to get.

Also still trying to figure out what the unknown hose is in the first pic...don't see a place for it.

Thanks again for the help,
Mike
