Underhood insulation?

Just picked up a TII hood, but it's missing the insulative material that my NA hood has, looks like I can't swap it over due to the scoop. You guys with TII hoods, is the padding/insulation material there? Also, can't find it on the mazda parts manuals either. I think I need it, gonna get new paint soon and want it to last.
Suggestions on where I can get it or maybe a substitute?

umm my n/a has an aluminum hood so maybe the aluminums don't have the insulation, my under hood has no glue marks, so i assumed it was never there, but after 16 years, god knows who did what

Looks like it's attached with little round plastic clips, not glue. If it's supposed to be there I guess I need it.
Anyone happen to have a mazda part number?

Hey Gadget, are you saying you have a good one for a TII hood you'd be willing to sell?

Out of curiosity, why would you want to put it there? Not having it would probably help the engine vent heat a little better. The only reasons I can think for wanting it are noise (bah) and possibly hood rigidity, but I can't imagine insulation adds that much.

Well, supposedly it keeps the heat from cracking the hood paint. Guess mazda put it there for some reason.

Generally every FC i've seen that has factory paint has peeling, chipping, fading problems. The underhood insulator is installed to prevent underhood heat from damaging the color and paint on the hood. Some state that it serves as an engine fire blanket as well, but i cannot second that..

Relisys190 It's definatly not a fire blanket.. There was lots of people who chimed in that it burns rather easily the last time that was mentioned.. you could probably dig it up on a seach if you cared (I really didn't, I was just reading the thread..).

What I did with my hood was rubberize undercoat the entire thing. My heat padding was pretty much shot, and I didn't like the look of it anyway. The downside was the extra weight, but I'm thinking it quieted things down, so that's a fair trade to me. I'm hoping this holds up well
