Un-universal Spacers

I have recently put RX7 Turbo II wheels and tires on my 89 Probe GT. I needed spacers to keep the tire from rubbing with the springs. I got some universial 5 lug spacers. I installed them, however since they are universal when I place them over the lugs, they sag. So the top will be flush with the hub, but the bottom will be about 1/4" away from the hub. This is fine for under 50MPH, after that the car starts bumping due to the out of balance tires.

My question is this. How can I install the universial spacers PERFECTLY?
Or where can i get ones that will not have this problem?

Thanks!

Not sure who sells ones for a probe, but whatever you buy make sure its "hubcentric" then you won't have any balance issues.

But I have to say I've ran universal spacers on a few 7's and I've never had any noticeable balance issues as fast as I've driven on the track....have you tried say taping them in place relatively centered then bolting the wheel on?

get the wheel fairly snug, then center the spacer and torque the wheel all the way on. i never had any problems with that.

Thanks for the replies.

I can't get the wheels on then move the spacers around. They are the 1987 Turbo II rims. As you can see from the images below the spacer will not sit evenly on the hub.

So I guess no one has ever used these type spacers, and hasn't come up with a good way to make sure they are on balanced? Please someone help!

yeah those are teh kind of spacers i used to have, but i had enough gap between spokes so i could use the method i described above... guess you can't. that sucks.

i'd go with tape or something then like classicauto said. or just get better spacers

i used those to run 300zx wheels on the front of my fc's, the way described above is the only way to do it. put the spacer on, then the wheel, and tighten it down just enough that it will hold the spacer, but still allow you to move it. spend a minute or two to push and pull on it, get it as centered as possible. sucks, but thats the only way to get them to work.

Whoa, at quick glance, that probe resemble an FC.

I got some real spacers. Made In Germany.

I don't use them. Gonna put 'em up for sale.

Just use some gasket goo or something to hold them in place while you mount the wheel. Just don't use too much or you'll have trouble getting them off.
