My Car would like to "gag every once in awhile,Especially when I just take it for a 3 mile run then shut it off,.Try to restart and it would Try to start but inevitably I would end up doing the Deflood procedure.
That meant Popping the hood,getting out of the car,Pulling the EGI fuse,getting back in,cranking the engine over to clear fuel,Back OUT of the car,Put the fuse back IN,then Close the hood(HOPING that the car would start off the bat),then starting it..What a Royal pain in the ***..I thought:HMMM..there has to Be something BETTER!
I FOUND IT.
The Switch came off a Old Stereo Stand,that would power the lights to the Interior of the Stand when the Glass door was opened up.
So,the Switch looks like a Push button switch,that is always ON when OUT(when you open the glass door the Switch is activated and the lights go On)..and when you PUSH the switch it OPENS the circuit(glass door closed..no lights!)
.so,I spliced into the EGI fuse wire at the Harness and the fuse block(engine bay).I saw which wire goes to the EGI Fuse and ran some Wire to the inside of the cabin and installed the switch.
Now whenever the car decides to Not Start,I Momentarily press the button,it Defloods the Engine...You let go of the Switch and Voila!.fuel is back and the car Starts up!!
It Works like a charm!!.
so,QUICK FIX:..push button switch,Normally Closed,when UP.(button OUT)
.....................Button IN: opens Circuit,stops fuel (until you let go of the switch)
..If you can find a switch like that in an Electrical store,.GET ONE!.You will NOT be sorry!

You should just take your injectors out and have them cleaned... Glad it's working for you though.

This thread is so much more informative now that you've added that little tidbit.

Anyway...

A push button is a good method, but a regular on/off switch would give you a cheap-o theft deterrence as well. I turn mine off when I'm leaving the car unattended for long periods of time.

better make sure the switch and wiring is suitable to handle the current. IIRC the fuse is 40? amps

I had one of those cheap autozone "horn" buttons strapped under my steering wheel to get my car deflooded.

Any momentary N/C switch could do this. They shouldn't be too hard to find. I've got some cool ones here at work (electrical wholesale). It's a really good idea though, thanks for sharing

Why not a fuel cut switch made with the wires of the fuel pump relay, which is right under the dash.

I did have one on the Fuel pump wire that runs down the Drivers side door sill. Worked great, then removed after I got the RTEK Ecu upgrade...

I've got a switch tapped into the same place, conviently hidden so it can also serve as a threft deterent deviceas well. I though about removing once I installed my rtek but that aspect has prompted me to keep it...for now at least

I installed a simple on/off rocker switch inline with the power wire that runs to the fuel pump relay which is located under the dash above your right knee. Lower amperage situation to the same conclusion.

Dash relay: I have a hard time walking(3 discs/3 vertebrae Done) so I can't bend into the dash.The Engine bay is easier.
Switch is hidden but I can get at it.
ON/OFF switch?.Kill Switch?..I hate them!.and the car is always IN sight.It's not a grocery getter!
I got a System on the car anyways.Kills everything.
And my Injectors?..Ya,They are Brand Spanking New.RC750'sX4.
LOL BOY!: only has 4 posts anyways so he is most likely HIGH!!(not used to Rotary fumes yet!)

Nice way to replicate the gas pedal feature of the later models. Now lets fix the actual cause of the flooding problem.


Decarboning of the engine (to regain lost compression) and new plugs will take care of any flooding problems. I've come to find out that plugs life are shortened when your engine floods too much.

Alot of people that own FC's DO encounter Flooding problems..and The band-aid fix is the Cut off Switch.It Seems like the majority of FC owners are just "Not Rich" enough to keep up with the Maintenance!!!
I am merely posting what I did to make my Life easier.
Hell,I built this car out of Forum parts!.the shipping alone was enough to Buy a Car!
I'm glad I got the switch at a Junk shop.Or I would have had to pay 45 Bucks off of EBAY!..haha!
I'm in a Financial situation where I can't risk Decarbonizing an Engine just to "see" that the carbon was acting as a seal and was actually Giving the engine Compression(just hypothetically).
Any way that you slice it,a 2 dollar switch is gonna beat out 10 days of Down time and having your injectors sent out to get cleaned,especially when you can't afford them!
I know it's not a TRUE Fix,but hey,if It works,you don't care HOW it works,you just want it to Work!

OK, I get it...you cobbled a switch out of a stereo cabinet to help deflood your car.
I'm a little confused how this switch is "the ULTIMATE" solution though.

Hardly even seems to be the ULTIMATE switch to use if you're going this route.

^+1. i was thinking a sensor to detect a "going to flood" condition and automaticly cut fuel for 10 seconds or so. actually... i could do this with a small simple circuit, but then again, i have no flooding problems. ever.

still a neat idea.. but could also be executed with a 40 amp relay were the relay is de-energized with the touch of a button.

Agreed. I don't like having potentially high current wires run all over the car. Run small grounding switches and use relays to switch the power where its needed.

heh..Ultimate For ME Clokker..
you don't know how Hard it is for Me to get in and out of my car!
I went downtown the other night to get Dog Food,and I got back in the car.I turn the key and it just goes 'past the point' where the Ignition doesn't wanna Kick the engine over.You can feel it.,if you know what I mean.You know the 'flood is comin".I hit that Button while Rolling over for 2 seconds, let go and she Caught Spark and Started up..
I smiled and Said to myself YESSS!
You picture a 50 year old Hunchbacked guy trying to get In and OUT of a RX7 that has Racing seats and a Momo wheel with Spacers and quick release.It is like a Sticking Baby Back IN..(not done yet!)..That is Why I call it Ultimate,,it is Ultimate to ME!
It makes Driving My Car so much easier now,Knowing that I don't have to Get in and out of the damn car because it Gets Finicky and doesn't want to Fire up!..I'm gonna have a Good summer!.

just my 2 cents i wanna put in

the two under the hood fuses dont work worth a ****!
the best way to deflood, with out having to make a switch, or pull injectors, is to pull
the BLACK and YELLOW box lookin thing right above the gas pedal
from the harness, then turn the key, it will run
for a sec. until the fuel is cleared then die. replace the box, and it should start right up

screw those fuses under the hood, i havent used those in almost a year

easiet install of a fuel cut switch is this.

get yourself a 20A at 12v switch. 15 amp is ok as well but i prefer a safty buffer.

1. go under your dash and locate your fuel relay, it should be on a metal bracket all you need to do is slide it down, its a big black box with 5 wires goin to it.
2. note how the pins are put into the plug it goes 2 wires 1 wire and 2 wires. the wire you want is the black/white stripe wire
3. cut wire from relay harness with enough to strip the ends to connect your wire for the switch
4. strip wire on car harness side and connect to one side of switch
5. strip wire on fuel relay side and connect to other side of switch
6. plug fuel relay back in and install back on metal bracket
7. install switch where you think is best
8. start car, if you get a switch without a light test to see which position is on. you can use the voltage meter to do so by testing for continuity while the switch is still in your hand and not wired but if your lazy just crank the car it will be really obvious when its off and on.
9. no more flooding and if you cant afford to get that motor rebuilt or injectors cleaned well this was a 4.00$ fix with some spare wire.

Ok guys he says he has back problems, the normal way to do a fuel cut switch, he isn't going to do,
unless he gets someone else to make it for him.
