Uh-oh, water!

I was taking out my passenger seat (To thoroughly clean an already clean car.), and was unbolting the rear bolt closest to the door. What do I feel in the deepest part of the carpet where that bolt is? Dampness. I didn't really think much of it, considering my hands were wet (It's still lightly raining). But being curious, I felt the rest of the carpet on that side of the car. Nothing. Dry as could be. But, I wasn't satisfied, and I lifted up the carpet on the passenger side.

Water.

Not a lot, but maybe a few Tablespoons worth. There's no rust, no holes, no nothing. Just the water. I can't figure out where in hell it came from. My car has zero leaks, and there's just water there...

I got down on the (soaking) wet (very cold) ground (cement!) to look under the car. I've been under there a lot, and there's zero rust on my car and it's all undercoated... so how did this water get here? It was dry yesterday, and it's been raining all day today. I soaked up the water that was there with a few paper towels... and now I'm freaked.

I haven't driven anywhere today.

I have the same problem. I can't find any leaks in the door seals or the sunroof.

I had a heater-core leak one time in a car.. but it was obviously coolant as it was greenish... If you aren't running much anti-freeze.. perhaps thats it.

if its a vert..... I think the problem is obvious.

Your first step, however, should be to dry the area as completely as possible... and let it sit overnight.. then go check it again. It could be a fluke thing as you may have had the door open while cleaning in the rain or something.

However, I wonder if the doors can leak inside.. I know they have vents to leak outside.. but if those were clogged with debris.... it might find another path.

Not the heater core.

Coolant is 50/50

All seals are in damned perfect condition.

Cleaned up the water.

Couldn't have happened when I had the door open, it was only sprinkling very, very, very lightly (The only reason I went out to pull the seat.).

The door leaking inside would be a very clever thing to check, but the door panel wasn't wet and neither was the carpet on the door sill. All was dry.

I think I saw a small rubber plug on the underside of the car in that area, and I think I saw the other end when I had the carpet up. Do FC's have drain holes?

Only problem with that theory is that I haven't moved the car. I just can't find where this water could have come from...it's really odd.

What's really really strange is the fact that this water was localized. It wasn't near anything like the center console, the wall that goes up to the hatch area, the door frame sill or forward of the car. Again, it was just standing water. About three Tbsp. worth.

I'm beyond confused.

Water can run down the side plastic, near the seatbelts. And to answer your question, yes there are many drain plugs in the floor of the FC.

I thought about that. I looked, and there's no evidence of water and nothing is so much as damp. I also pulled up the carpet again, and there isn't any more water..but it's still damp/moist from the deadening material getting wet. I checked all the seals, it's fine. The door carpet isn't wet or damp. My vapor seals are completely intact and sealed. I know this because I've removed both interior panels before, and I never get condensation inside. That's a plus, I suppose. Could this water thing be some freak moisture business? A friend of mine once kept a sealed gallon jug of water behind his front seat, and for several months he was wondering why the hell the back of his seat was always very damp. Took the jug out and poof. But I don't keep any water in the car like that.

...Actually, to confess, I keep nothing loose in the car. If something is in the car, it's strapped down or in a storage bin. Ever been hit with something large and rather heavy when you get hit / hit something?

Just to follow up...

After it poured all night long, and for a good part of the day, I went out and checked to see if the water I had originally found had returned. Now, all day yesterday the car aired out, and when I went to sleep it had started to rain. There's no water anywhere to be found today. That's good, I assume.

I get the same thing with my TII, sortof. Whenever it rains, when i first get in the car and start it up, sometimes water will drip (maybe a couple tablespoons) onto the passenger rubber floor mat from under the dash. Its not coolant, its clear and doesnt smell. All door/sunroof seals look good on it too

That sounds like a clogged drain hose for your Condenser box. I've had that problem on two cars.

And I found the water behind the passenger seat.

The car was locked.

I'm writing it off (for now) as a freak condensation thing.

To whom was that question intended? If it were for me, then the answer is no.

No, I was asking if it has a sunroof.

See if it is an external leak there are 4 common spots water can get in. The sunroof drains (which are plastic tubes that run down from the sunroof area). the windsheild seal, the hatch drains (the most common problem- the hatch gutter fills, and seeps past the seal then behind the plastic panels and then under the carpet) and the final one the hatch vents.

All of which seep and run under the plastic and under the carpet.

Icemark: I clean my hatch drains when I clean the interior every week or two, and make sure all drain gutters are clear of debris. I used the hose this morning and sprayed the crap out of the sunroof, the hatch, the windshield and the doors for a while, and I got no water.

Tyblat: My ac doesn't work right so I never used it.
