UH OH!! Checked compression today...

Well, if anyone recognizes me, I'm the idiot running 20psi with stock intercooler, stock injectors and stock turbo.

I can see a lot of you guys giving me the "well, DUH" response. I'm getting 85psi on the rear rotor and 65psi on the front. that is total compression. when holding the button on the tester and cranking, I hear "psh, psh, PSH, psh, psh, PSH" this leads me to believe that all apex seals are bad, but at least one in each rotor is VERY bad. i have a spare motor but it needs to be rebuilt if that is possible. i can't afford to get another reman motor and if my spare motor is rebuildable, then i'm going to try to do it myself. for those of you who rebuild motors frequently, what rebuild kits do you use or where do you get them from??

rotaryaviation.com has the best apex seals on the market. theyre like 7 times stronger than the stock ones. they sell rebuild kits on there for the rx7 and believe it or not , its one of the cheapest kits out there

yeah, i don't get it either, i've been running like that for more than a month now. pulls real hard all the way to redline.

i'm looking for rebuild kits right now. i've looked at atkins and mazdatrix already. i'll just take it easy i guess till i can get my spare one built. i'm not gonna port that one tho. just gonna do a budget build.

well, i checked out rotaryaviation today. i might get that soley based on the good apex seals. figured i might as well get the master rebuild kit

PS: was driving my car today and apparently, the compression is low enough now to not even fire. still idles at 750 but rough as hell. and stutters when accelerating. i'd like to get that motor out before the seals actually break and destroy possibly good housings.

crank up the boost controller to 35 lbs, that'll fix it!!!

Crap I'm worried about my motor with it creeping to 15 lbs...

Dude, sounds like your housings will already be fucked...
Doesn't take much to scratch them up really good.

I could still hold 10psi to redline with one totally lunched rotor/housing and it idled.. just..

So thats not a very good indicator..

and yeah.. well, DUH as if it wouldn't blow up from all that abuse you've thrown at it..

someone in my town is running 18 psi on his open downpipe 88' TII, he has 720's and a walbro though, I think his turbo is about to **** out though because whenever he get on it it smokes really bad.... you might wanna rebuild that turbo to.

mine don't smoke. and i'm pretty damn sure that no apex seals are "broken". the condition of the housings is unknown but very possible worn out. and, this may be some crazy thinking but 20psi only breaks stuff, not wear things out. the seals/housings are just pre-maturely worn but not broke. i don't believe 20 psi had anything to do with it.

Stuttering on aceleration and a really rough idle means that something IS broke..

Worn down apex seals will just slowly make less and less compression, and therefor power.

I'm telling you dude, my car still held an idle and you could drive it, in fact it was very very smooth above 3k rpm.. Once i disassembled it I found one fucked housing and one fucked rotor.

Just worn down apex seals wont be enough to cause these sorta problems i dont believe.

if the compression is low enough, even when running, there may not be enought compression to fire the air/fuel mix. yeah, i drove mine for 30minutes after it started running wrong. about 3k like you, and seemed to cruise fine but quickly went rough again when i went to pass someone because the increased load on the motor. i had a camaro do the same thing sort of. one of my spark plugs was loose and i was loosing enough compression through the spark plug that i might as well just take the plug wire off it was missing so bad.
