two oil coolers

i want to use two oil coolers on my car, only thing i`m worried about is pressure drop ...

but i think i read somewhere about mod which raised overall oil pressure....could someone remind me it ?

what u guys think about it ?

reason i want to get two oil coolers is that one does not cool my oil enuf at speeds 150+ mph and pressure starts falling......

i have all parts and will find out mounting and connecting too, just need to work out pressure....

thanks for any inputs....

I'll keep an eye out for ya, I did hear that if you run 2 oil coolers that you should have them in parallel and not in series.

Been there....

Coolers should be set in parrallel to help avoid pressure drop. You'll lose some pressure by simply adding the second cooler so should can add the comp pressure regulator. I lost about 10psi by adding the second cooler. Mazdaspeed, Mazdatrix, RB and probably some others sell the 120psi comp regulator. Drop the pan and follow the instructions to install it. While you have the pan down you might as well add the baffle plate. This will help cool the oil and prevent airation. You'll need slightly longer pan bolts if you plan to add the baffle plate. Last big tip is to be careful of where you install the 2nd cooler. Don't block air flow to the radiator. I ended up mounting mine in front of the stock cooler at the same angle but slightly lower. It required custom ducting and is too low for street use. Another (maybe easier) alternative is an oil-water cooler. Whereby you use the cooling capacity of the radiator to cool your oil. These coolers are more efficient but would most likely over tax a stock radiator. For more info you might try browsing www.improvedtouring.com or some of the other racing oriented boards.

I took some pics but it was hard to make anything out. Email me off line and I'll give you a little better description on what's needed. rrxp689@peoplepc.com

You should check your oil temp with an oil temp gauge, not an oil pressure one. There may be other factors causing pressure frop (e.g. aeration), and it'd be frustrating to go to all that effort for nothing.

reted told me my dropping pressure could be caused by too hight oil temp (at high speeds)...since i have parts, i want to give it try...

My guess would be aeration as well. I would get an accurate oil temp read before going through all that trouble. Also, check your thermal pellet.

I don't think you want 2 oil coolers sitting in front of your radiator disrupting air flow....

They make oil pan baffle plates for the aeration problem, or you could try running a synthetic (Less foaming)

Check out Mariahs website for dual oil coolers if you are intereted in a kit.
http://www.mariahmotorsports.com/
They run these in parallel. One each behind the left and right foglight. Remote oil filter. I have seen their car it is installed on - top notch. Here is a link with some pix of it.

Scroll down the page a little. Can't miss it (Frogteam). If you really want tons of oil pressure, go dry-sump, it's only $2000+.

I run one single 96 pass mesa style cooler with a 10 inch electric fan and my oil never passes 185 F. If you don't want to run two coolers just get a slightly larger one with a larger oil capacity.

Does anyone have experience with the oil-water cooler setup? I have the HUGE K2RD Al unit. I think it is more than sufficient for the extra duty as an oil cooling unit also. Anyone have any info on this setup? What is the difference in cooling ability?
